Get yourself a 'Mortgage Pig'

Got my mortgage statement today - have squeaked into the 76K although I didn't have a brilliant month, well I know I'm going to make £75 next month because of the £2 coin cheque for a £1000! I need to sort a few things out to sell and I think I can make it down to £74K. My ambition was to get to less than 73 by the end of this year, if I get my community tax overpayment refunded I should be well on target for this, so thanks to everyone on here for keeping me motivated!0

What a good idea! I found a really good money box recently, but the other half put her foot done and refused to have 'Mortgage Batman' in the house. I was gonna put a huge speech bubble over his head saying 'Stop Citizen...'
Hi! if you're reading this btw, babe!0 -
Welcome Big O, good luck with your mortgage 'Batman' (or whoever it will be!!!!)
HQ, well done on getting down to 76K, i always look out at the begining of the month to see how you are doing!!!!!0 -
I have been following this post for a little while now and you have all inspired me to get a mortgage pig when I move to my new house in 11 days time. Atm I have a coffee jar with odd change in it which I counted up on Friday that's £60 towards my first mortgage overpayment.
I was wondering when do you begin to notice the payments comming off or do you notice straight away? I have an endownment mortgage atm which I'm changing to repayment when I move, the interest will be charged daily if that makes any differenceI have also surrendered my endownment so that's a big chunk to come off it too :T

It does make a difference - if the interest is charged daily you can see it reduce from month to month, its lovely to see the mortgage total reduce as well! Good luck! Will you name the pig or coffee jar!??!
Perhaps Big O you can compromise on the batman and get a cute piggy!!0 -
Just had a count up of mine and had about £75.00 in notes and coins, just stuff I had been putting in the jar after work etc. Also got a dividend cheque from some someshares so thats another £25 in the jar. Going to the bank this week to pay in. So in total now near the £260 mark since the start of August.
Very cool!!
The statement is looking better each month. I have also signed up to on-line banking, so I can keep a closer eye on how much I am paying in.0 -
Great! Its amazing how it adds up and you don't miss the money but it makes such a difference!0

Thanks halloweenqueen.:T I think I shall invest in a pig or maybe some other kind of animal that can become part of the family (I shall raid the charity shops and see what I can find) when I get him or her I shall see what it looks like and give it a name:j
At the moment I'm going to name my jar Kenco0 -
hi guys and gals
dont remember when i started my "mortgage pig" but it has now made enough for the boys guitar that he wanted so badly (ok its not the mortgage but same difference) so we are/were £400 up and he is happy. next is boarding attic out to use as storage (we have a tiny house so very useful idea. attic will cost around the same so in a few months it will be used for mortgage. this was a damn good idea. so many thanks to OP xxx

I've always had a money jar for saving coins in, but had become a bit lapse at topping it up, have started again in the last few weeks and so far have £26 to take to the bank tmrw. Plainning to pay it off the credit card first then once that's gone will pay it off the mortgage.Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110
