Not doing so well this month, had my purse stolen a couple of weeks ago, so things are very short this month, so the pig has been a bit neglected. But, have put some things onto ebay today, so hopefully they will go well, and i will be able to feed him again!!!!
  • Oh thats real **** cat, how did it get stolen? Good luck with your ebay sales - well done elliesmum!

HQ you'll pull something out of the hat to up your total I'm sure :rotfl:

As for me it's slow going this month as I've started shopping for Christmas, yes I know the dreaded C word, but with all the advice on this site it was easy getting started early this year :T

I am really going to concentrate on morgage busting next year but will contiue to do what I can in the meantime on the understanding that every little helps ;)

    Hi All

I have been following this board for a while, and trying to fill up our piggy (he doesn't have a proper name).

Anyway today I ahve made a decision

We are already mortgage free - but had intended to get a mortgage for an extention - however this board is encouraging me to try and save/giggle finances to pay for it.
But I have been struggling to get OH to put money in piggy - he beleives in the idea but keeps saying things like

I only spent £15 on a takeaway - can I put £15 in piggy for the other dishes I didn't order.
Humm - will have to keep trying on this one. (I shouldn't complain OH is actually a lot better with cash then me :j - but doesn't read MSE)

So today the rules in our household have been defined - to save for my new kitchen in the new extention

All money from ebay, quidco, other cash back sites and money from vouchers will go in piggy (matched betting profits to be kept seperate for when I am not working - I am a part time SAHM).

Can I join you guys while I save - I don't know how much a new kitchen will cost yet

Welcome hgbels - you are more than welcome here!!!!
Glad you have made a decision, so good luck with the savings for your extention - and hopefully you will find a name for your piggy too!!!!
  • Welcome hgbels - I think you are most welcome here! I suppose it depends on how big the extension is and what make of kitchen goes in it will determine the price, have you applied for planning permission yet? It will save you lots of money in interest if you can save to pay for it, so well worth joining us here! Congrats on being mortgage free - we hopt to join you one day!

    Thanks for the welcome

We are just applying for planning permission etc - so I will soon be able to start looking around for a new kitchen.
I am hoping the building work will be about £26k - but it seems a bit of a catch 22 - we can't get a price until we have detailed plans, but without knowing what things cost we can't decide what to get done.

I have however made OH agree to only a 1 story extention.

Anyway building insurance is up for renewal so I will be on Quidco tonight to get soem cash back

  • hello peeps:)

Very educational thread - seems advice is helping loads of us out here - not sure if I've read it all and taken it in (now that would be a minor miracle :exclamati

Was brought up NOT to do debt (save first - buy later!!) - so mortgage is my only debt = though I have savings currently in ISA/Premium Bonds.
Is it better to use any 'extra' or 'spare' cash to pay off the mortgage - on a monthly and/or long term basis? (my mortgage lets me pay off as and when within reason)
Cheers (now feeling v. grown up talking 'seriously' about money. OMG):rotfl:
