Christ - didnt think me having wanting a boy on my siggg and someone asking why would turn into a topic... make me feel like I shouldnt have it on there now...

Don't worry about having it in your sig, we like a bit of lively discussion in here! :)
I know I shouldn't have a preference, but I am wanting a boy too. And if truth be told, I have convinced myself it will be a boy so much I may go into shock if it's a girl!

Search - its the things like food and petrol which are our biggest outgoings, we're saving to buy all the baby bits in next few months, but are shopping around and not going OTT.

I think when I'm off work its going to be harder, but as I'm only off for a few months shouldnt be too bad, the nursery fees of £300 a month will be a new big outgoing and loss in my wages because I'll be at 4 days a week instead of 5.

SM, we are nowhere near debt free and OH's pay will effectively be halved from July onwards because of his new dream job (without the dream pay packet!). I have no idea how we are going to cope as we will also be paying out for a childminder when I return to work between 6-12 weeks depending on when the savings completely run out.

I have stopped playing around with tax credit calculators and budget calculators because it left me feeling too panicked. Well its too late now I say and as long as I can house, feed and love my little one - the credit card bills will just have to wait. I know its flippant of me, but I cant change anything and I cant see that money is going to fall from the sky anytime soon so I am just going to concentrate on enjoying the last couple of weeks of my pregnancy and then the end result!!

searching - it's a bit early for us, but I know what you mean. I'm really torn between wanting to pay off larger chunks of debt (luckily fairly small for us...minus my giant student loan from the US gov't!) and wanting to save for baby things knowing how much they are going to cost...especially in the uncertain future for things like wage gaps with SMP (luckily small for me as my job has really good top-ups) and eventually *gulp* childcare!

i know what main worry is is having barely any control over it all knowing that if one more extra bill falls on the door step were screwed really ... as soon as bubs is born i loose any benefits as tax creds gives me too much, its the first time in my life i will not be on benefits and it scares the hell out of me but its good to know i dont have to worry about contacting them if OH gets a job or my hours change (when i go back) x

  • I worry a bit about the impact of childcare though we can both get vouchers. If we both get the max amount we can cover 4 days in my work nursery (which is a lot cheaper than private). I guess we'll be about £300 odd down a month, which is a lot. we've managed to do most things we want on the house this year through saving so I hope we won't notice it too much.

We'll hopefully have paid off the car by the time she arrives (paying about £500-700 a month in min payments and savings towards a 0% credit card at the mo  but at least no-one's getting any interest off us!) DH has just finished paying off his student loan too so the timing's not bad.

It's the unforeseen biggies that worry me - the boiler going or something. We do have savings but not the kind of cushion that makes me feel totally secure.
