My health visitor has just been to visit! Seems very nice.. She was a midwife here, then a Neonatal nurse prior to being a HV. She's also has a son who was in SCBU for a while and is now in a wheelchair (like Rhys might well be) although she didn't go into detail.

Not quite sure what a health visitor is there to do..

They are your support, ask questions, find out information on local support groups, and they do the weighing and measurments etc.. for the chart, although not sure why you need one when you are still at the hospital ??

:( can i still hide out here with you lot? I know i dont post much, but i dont want to go into the TTC 12+ months thread :(

I stupidly decided to do some googling about recurrent miscarriage earlier and it looks like ive only got a 53% chance of my next beanie hanging around :(

    blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Bumblebee - you hang around as long as you like:D Just remember every lady and pregnancy is different. My neighbour is a nurse whose mum was a midwife and my next door neighbour is a midwife and the difference in opinion they have to the hospital / my doctors regarding miscarrage rates and reasons for bleeding are vast. I am sure someone in the medical profession will reassure you as to your chances next time - if i had gone by what i had read on the internet i would have been in a right state. Have a dodgy hug to cheer you up :grouphug:And i learnt yesterday that port has got iorn in it and is an old midwife trick for recouping your blood levels - so have a nice glass of port too - who cares if it is an old midwifes tale:rotfl:

Elle - if you're lucky (and sounds like u have been) your HV will happily answer all ur weird qu's like "why is his poo now this colour/consistency?" they also are the ones who spot if u need help for things like PND and they check LO's development like if they can't crawl by x mths they would refer bubba to someone to be checked

Congrats Bennie - hope you get a lovely scan pic you can cherish..

Know I've mentioned it before but has anyone else had step B test, and when can you get test (I know a £30 fee applies). I'm having it drummed into me by a friend who's friend gave birth didnt know she carried it and passed to baby who know has celebral palsy, so I'm really paranoid about it now.

    x

I think this has all been answered now, but just to say that I spoke to my Gp about it and I am having the test on the NHs too. He told me to just book myself in at the wellwoman clinic which I've done for when I am 35 weeks. I'm going to get tested for thrush while I'm there too as I had issues with thrush at 22 weeks.

Beenie - try not to worry too much. I know it's hard but I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll get a lovely pic. Just tell the sonographer how scared you are and then they are usually really nice.

Bumble - I have a friend who had eight mcs and then two children, so there is no reason why you shouldn;t be able to have a baby, it just sometimes takes a long time to get there. ANd of course you can stay here! :A

I'm about to order my sheepskin and fleece - has to be on the phone or i'd have done it last night - and have my piano lesson at 2.

Just caught a spider under a glass ready for OH when he comes home! :rotfl:

ANd thanks for all the stuff on sheets - am looking on John Lewis now as am not sure about making my own.

Finally - does anyone know if you can use Mothercare vouchers online? We have a gift card for them but our store is a bit rubbish and I'd rather order online if I can.

nancmat - just curious - why does your siggie say fingers crossed it's a boy?

we've just shortlisted for my mat cover. Quite exciting really though it's also hard to hand over everything. Got HIP grant form to send off as am 25 wks today - yay! Discovered Cub likes Eric Clapton at the weekend - we're doing her a playlist on the sonos system. 'My girl' is one of our faves (DH sings it at the bump) as well as our wedding first dance (we have all the time in the world) but also some random other stuff.

Skinty i don't think you can use a giftcard online - there is no answer in their 'help' section tho
you can also order over the phone, so maybe call them and ask before you put the order through

to be honest it's not surprising he's having problems at school considering the effect having daddy there one minute and then not the next, poor little mite won't know if he's coming or going :(

I still haven't had my results for test and the cheque has only just come out so my suggestion it get it done at the earliest point it suggests (which i think is 35wks) I'm hoping that as money has come out my results will be at GPs when I see MW tomorrow.
As Tara said the kit is free and you send payment with the samples I got my kit from mumstuff, all info here

nancmat; your story brought a tear to my eye! I know it's very scary as nothing can really prepare you for having a baby of your own but you obviously have the magic mummy gene in there and to be honest as you are young, fit n healthy you're in the best position to have a straight forward birth.
I for one never imagined that giving birth could be anything but a hideous painful experience but I can honestly say that giving birth to Chris was a million times easier than I thought it would be, afterwards I actually said "that was easy!"
:rotfl: looking back it wasn't 'easy' but nothing really worth doing is, is it?! :D

Glam - old buddy, old friend you know I want a wii fit

Sami - Thanks v much, a few friends were suprised I had the baby but knew how seriously we thought about it, I think because of the way I first reacted to being pregnant I still take congratualtions and the bump very hard to take, I was blubbing on hubby yestreday because I cant control my body/emotions anymore.. but I really want to start to embrace the experience..

I forgot to add in story that In jan I was in a shop with a friend and a woman talking to us looked at me and said I'd have a baby boy before x-mas.. because babies werent in our plans.. I laughed it off... this made the whole pregancy even more real.. and I saw the psychic again by chance and she still thinks its a boy...

I just wondered as I was too but in retrospect I wish I hadn't - it took me a few days to feel positive about having a girl. I do now and we talk about her all the time (I don't think it makes any difference - kids are individuals and it's not like it's only boys who could be into footy or girls who like dancing or whatever)

Now we just need to manage MIL who is itching to go out and buy frilly tat, which I can't STAND!

I also feel for you and your mixed emotions - i find it difficult when ppl say 'oh you muct so SO excited' etc etc. I was never that into the idea of kids. It was only meeting DH was that made me reconsider. Cub was planned but I still have moments of feeling conflicted and emotional and out of control. I want my old body back too. We used to be really active, loads of sports and outdoorsy stuff and there are so many things I can't do comfortably, even just a kickabout in the park!

This is why we didn;t find out.

i would love a girl, and Oh would prefer a boy although he feels less strongly about it.

So many people have said they think I'm having a boy that now I refer to the baby as him sometimes and tend to think it will be a boy.

I reckon that if I do it this way, if it's a boy then it's what I thought we'd have and if it's a girl I will be super-excited!

But we never wanted to find out as i really want a surprise on the day.
