Car Boot Threads - OS or Ebay?
Comments
-
It would not occur to me to look for a thread about car boot sales on the ebay board because it is primarily about ebay (and other auctions) and a car boot sale is not an auction. I have used the ebay board once or twice for advice mainly about selling on ebay, and scam e-mails concerning ebay and pay pal.
I think like Queenie that a car boot sale is an O/S thing, lots of threads to do with car boots have been started on O/S in the past, and it is the modern "jumble sale".
HOWEVER, having said that, I tend to look on O/S the most as its my favourite - if I wasn't a regular "lurker" there, I dont think I'd really know where to look for car boot sale advice. So if there is a lot of car boot sale posts then I think perhaps they could all go together, perhaps you could rename the ebay forum in some way?
Also - (just to add my two pennies worth) some threads have been moved from Old Style to other places, with the explanation that "this is more suitable to discussion time" for example. I have also seen the odd post asking why the Old Style diary posts are not in discussion time too. I take it then that Old Style threads are to be kept to things like cleaning and cooking and kitchen appliances, and anything else that is started there will be moved? 'Cos it seems to me that the true spirit of Old Style encompasses much more than that, which is why some people are upset when their posts are moved elsewhere. I hope I haven't upset anyone here, its not my intention. Its just an observation. Although I love Old Style I read through all the boards when I have time. (Sorry, I have just realized I have gone way off topic)0 -

I think if there are other similar issues, like the car boot/charity shop/jumble sale one where people have differing opinions a poll would be a really useful way of gauging people's opinions. What do you think?
The same as I thought in post # 20_Sweet_Pea wrote:... I have also seen the odd post asking why the Old Style diary posts are not in discussion time too ...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Had to just pop back online to post on this as BG for the Scotland Board. We have two threads running at the moment about boot sales/markets in different areas and I certainly wouldn't want to lose them to either a sub board, the ebay board or come to that the os board.
These are threads where people are asking where to find a boot sale and what they are like once you find them, so very relevant to the local boards. Should the thread stray to what you might find at a particular boot sale I would still leave it in the Scotland Board so readers can get instructions on where to find a certain trader etc.
One of the Telephone Boards regular phone unlockers does a couple of car boot/markets and I wouldn't shift his posts to Telephones just because he unlocks phones (the fact that he has offered to do mine for free is nothing to do with it )
If anyone takes the time to read the Scotland Board they will find an equally friendly user base with regular posters eager to jump in and help visitors to Scotland, we even arrange to meet them and show them around.
Actually there was a thread in os recently about dining out where I posted the links to eating out in Scotland as one single thread cannot possible cover the whole of the country although I think in the end it ended up in the England board which is fair enough as we have two running at the moment.
So that is the vote placed from the Scotland jury0 -

Can't all carboot sales whether in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have a link to a common ground area? I.E. Car Boots?
From an undecided where to vote yet juror0 -

But Andrea did say "keep thinking"

I think they should be here in OS, I started a thread back in January about turning trash to cash, which I thought was an OS way of making money and recycling, it got moved and its a shame as the thread is going well and I would have liked you guys to be able to join in to.
Have to say, some threads on here aren't exactly OS either, yet they remain??
I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time though.

This is really quite interesting and I can see where the difficulty lies. I think it's very difficult when car boots and all the different aspects don't really fit into any one category. There is the selling aspect, the people who haunt them as a hobby, the people who view them as a regular way to make money and us Old Stylers who view them as a modern jumble.
I have voted for Old Style mainly because I am not a regular seller, I do plan on doing one in April but I already know where all mine are. But to me, a car boot just feels Oldstyle, a way of improving our lives without relying on the dreaded supermarket. We that do Oldstyle have no fear of using or buying secondhand. To me that is why a car boot purchase seems definitely oldstyle, as in reuse and recycle.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
