Lo! In one of my local stores a new sign has appeared on each self-scanner at the checkout:

"If you have vouchers or coupons please contact a member of staff for assistance"

Could the system have been abused already? Could it be a voucher for 50p off Tetley tea has been accepted against a can of Stella? Surely not.
Alas, now I shall never know....

P.S.There is a real voucher for 50p off beer on p64 of May/June Tesco Magazine. Its for a 500ml bottle of Badger Englands Gold . Available in Tesco from w/c 15/5/06, valid until 27/7/06.

All the self scanners round here had that sign over the coupon slot within a week of being installed.

Nice attitude. Mostly, the CS staff there are OK. I've had one or two who get shirty and try the "well, that product's not part of the promotion" guff (or similar), but most know the situation well enough.

I complained to HO about "The Following" and have an acknowledgement letter (today) explaining that security is generally handled by contracted firms and that my complaint has been pased onto regional management for further investigation.

    I await further news.

Good luck with that! Terry was there a few weeks back, by the way. ;)

what exactly is R&R and SEL?
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

All the information you need should be in the first post in the thread. Definitely worth a read.
It's Refund and Retain, by the way.
    Can I help?

However if running 20 through the checkout, and trying to get the @%#! machine not to complain about the weight of the item, or the position in the bag, or needing supervisor override / age confirmation. And trying to remember which items have cases / tags so that you can remind the inattentive supervisor to remove them before the store alarms go off. The actual price shown on the screen is the least of my worries.

With items like multi-buys or discounts the discount often isn't shown on the screen until after you complete the transaction (unlike Sainsbury's et al which show it at the time).

If I suspect there may be an R&R then I usually choose to go through a normal till because it saves the argument with CS about agreeing to the price.

    YMMV - Rufus.

I totally agree that the self scan tills can be a pain at times however I tend to check the prices of all high value items as they are scanned or as I scan them.

The cd's/dvds in question this week are a bit of an issue due to the fact that they are pre priced and not usually SEL'd.

Cheers duder - the share price is doing well but being dragged down by all those bloody R&R's!!!!!!!;)

OK. I'm totally lost now. Who's Terry?

I had a call from the store yesterday.

First claim was that he'd tried before but my line was engaged. Seeing as I have a mobile with two lines and an automatic answerphone and a notification when someone goes through to answerphone but dosen't leave a message coupled with the fact that I had none of these, I guess that that was the first time that he'd called. Seeing as I was promised a call within 48 hours and didn't get it, what's another porkie to add to the picnic?

Anyway, the claim from the Defective was that he wasn't following me. This was after he told me in store that he was told to by his manager. I was then told, as if to contradict himself further, that the defective has been told to follow people more covertly in future.

AHA - So he was following me.

I'm begining to wonder, actually, why he bothered to call me back. Did it really take over a week to come up with a self contradicting story that's as believeable as Sainsburys annoucing that they're about to put in a take over bid?

I ended up telling him why I was being followed and still I got denials. However, he emphasised the point that I am welcome in the store.

I think I know why. It's so that they can follow me around the store and I can do their jobs for them by pointing out all the mis-prices - certainly I'm a whole lot better at it than their FMC department. :rotfl:

Odd fellow, may i enquire how big the store concerned is? ie is it an Extra, superstore or little ol' express?

edit: Terry = Terry Leahy, Chief Executive.

It's a two storey Extra. Check it out on verylittlehelps.com. Tesco Extra Great Yarmouth staff post there a lot - and they are not a happy bunch!
