That isnt really true if you think about it. the reason Tesco make profits is that they buy somthing for not a lot and sell it for a bit more. the fact that they occasionally make a mistake on pricing of some products they make a bit extra off those shoppers that dont check their recipts after paying. It may be 1 or 2 pence profit per item, to make £2billion profit and with the number of items they sell each year they dont have to make alot per item just sell an awfull lot of them to make those types of figures. and no mater what time I go in to stores there is always 1 person with a trolly full of stuff either att he checkouts or walking round the store even during the night.

Some CS staff seem to begrudge giving people a refund and seem to think we are removing the money from their wages, maybe it does affect their bonus or somthing I dont know? If they can give us all refunds on PSP games and still make huge profits Im sure it doesnt matter that much.

The most important thing I feel is to be polite and freindly with the staff

I've said it before and probably will again however the fact that a label shows the price to be lower than the price you actually pay does NOT affect the company profits either adversely or conversely. It makes absolutely no difference as a couple of other Tesco posters will no doubt confirm.

CS staff could sometimes be reluctant to give money back as yes, it could be affecting their wages. The more money given back the less profit tesco makes, the less profit tesco makes the less shares and smaller payrise the staff get. The problem is that the CS staff are directing their frustration at the customer who is following the policy (some customers however like to take the mick and those deserve the attitude that they are sometimes met with!) and not the people who cause the problem in the first place ie the departments who have not followed the correct routines in order to ensure that the price shown is the price charged...this could be price integrity, the trading department or even head office.

I completely agree with your comment about being polite and friendly. I have said before that attitudes are often reflective and if met with immediate hostility then the reaction will be one of the same. I acknowledge the fact that there are some bloody grumpy CS staff out there who simply do not have the skills needed to talk to a sewer rat let alone deal with customers however i firmly believe that these are in the minority.

one more thing......come on you mighty reds, we know you can win the cup once again!!

The best R&R is when grumpy CS says that is not an overprice and a very pleasant member of management says of course it is, don't keep that customer waiting any longer give her a refund - only just stopped myself saying 'told you so, told you so.'

Everytime I read these threads the R&R addiction kicks in, perhaps we need R&R anonymous 'Hello my name is ......'

I think this applies everywhere and not just R&R's at tesco. Sometimes it is soo hard not to walk away with a really smug grin!!:A

I am always polite when i go to customer service but it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference . If the assistant hates doing RR then, in my experience , they have let it be known but i never retaliate. If i was in their shoes and hated what i was doing then i would go work somewhere else.

    Hi

I went to Tesco Leyland today and found 4 packets of meat and a computer game where the shelf edge label was cheaper than pack price.

I paid and then went to Customer Services.

I was seen to by Service Manager :: Name removed - FM :: and I said to her "Hi, I've bought these items and they are all more expensive than the shelf label".
She said, "I'll stop you there. I can refund the difference or you can return the whole lot and thats all I'm gonna do". She said this with a rude little sarcastic grin plastered on her face.

I said to her that the Tesco Policy is to refund the whole amount and let me keep the items.

She accused me of attempting to take the items by dishonesty and trying to make a pecuniary advantage and of trying to steal the items!!! I was flabbergasted.

She refused to budge on her stance and then said "Look there is a queue of people behind you, what do you want, a refund of the difference, or to return all items for a full refund?"

I elected for a full refunded and left the shop after taking her details.

    What should I do now?

Ring Tesco HO Customer Services and tell them what happened - have had to do that before myself.

ABSOLUTELY. HO might back the store, they might not. However, you shouldn't have given back the evidence at this stage.

Stick to your guns on this. If HO don't make the store enforce the policy, press them VERY hard, in writing if necessary.

One of your trump cards is the threat of going to the local press - most local rag editors will be interested in a story of about a large local supermarket that makes £2.2bn profit willfully ripping off their readers.

And, beleive me, around the times that Tesco announces such massive profits, the press will be keen to publish any story that sensationalises the whole thing.

You might have a fight, but I fully expect that you'll win.
