No it's not a legal requirement, it's a customer retention measure, and an alternative to a fine from Trading Standards for overcharging.
But it is a legal requirement to honour any advertised policy.0 -

Of course they do. Just other supermarkets dont have to contend with absolute lunatics going round thinking that they should get their entire shopping for free, and if not that the world is plotting against them.
If T didnt offer such a lunatic RR policy in the first place then he wouldnt have attracted a bunch of lunatics to his shop joining in the fun. If I ran my business like that then I would have only myself to blame. It would be very strange if I blamed those lunatic shoppers wouldnt it??0 -

Exactly duplicates my experience with a Tesco Metro. In my case I had to have a 10 min wait for the store duty manager to finish their lunch after the till staff had argued about it vocally across the whole store. One stating that "Full Refund" meant a full refund of the "difference" as there is no way that Tesco would let you have a product for nothing.
Got there in the end, but the pain wasn't IMHO worth it.

This will be my last post as Mrpastry.
I have been told today that somebody at my local Tescos was asked to say hello to Mrpastry.
OK i've been rumbled, but I've enjoyed the fun of having staff from the Downham Market store follow me round when buying ,not always mispriced I hasten to add,but always on the lookout for THEIR glaring mistakes and overcharging.
Once again thankyou to all the staff on how polite they are and for all the freebies that I've had.
I will endeavor to promote this particular website to all.
Regards to you all

Hi all,
Just wondering if I could have some advise, only joined today after having one good and one not so good experience at Tesco.
This lunchtime, bought a Nokia 6230i at a Tesco Extra, SEL stated £139.97, bought this and was charged £149.97.
Pointed this out after paying it and then spent the next hour talking to different managers, all the way up to and including the store manager.
Basically, in miniscule writing (which I couldn't read unless I put my head right to the label, need glasses!) there was an expiry date of the 19th and this is their 'get out' clause. I was told it was perfectly legal and they were going to put these back out on the shelf!!
As I wasn't happy with the duty manager's response, I called up Tesco CS (0800 50 55 55) and was told it was up to manager's discretion, even though the policy clearly states about the shelf label, which was incorrect. He gave me the store managers name.
After another 10 minutes or so waiting (over an hour by this time) I did get the store manager who offered me the difference in the price and some Tesco mobile credit which I said I wasn't happy with, he gave me his details and I'm wondering what the best cause of action is.
I did state that I thought the policy was misleading, and the store pricing was misleading. After I bought the phones I noticed it also for sale at £149.97 with a £20 off when you buy phone credit... how this isn't misleading pricing I don't know ?
So is it best to ring and try and speak to someone else at CS? Do I email to CS or is it best to write using the old pen and paper?
Talking of new (and this is the good!) just added a new misprice into the relevant forum, PSP Midway Arcade Treasures, £19.97 SEL, £24.97 at till, R&R no problems, but this was at another store (Redditch Extra) as they didn't have Lemmings PSP at the store I bought the phone and I wanted it for £19.97 not £30+ and got a cheap Harry Potter at the same time..! PSP Midway was the last copy I saw..
Thanks in advance, and please be nice to me I'm new here today!!0 -
Am I the only person who thinks that this thread has turned into a bit of a joke? Its always been a prevocative topic but I think healthy discussion has turned from time to time into something very unpleasant. Whilst not everyone agreed with the viewpoints of tesco employees their contributions were invaluable. Spa2k helped many and was the first to put his hands up and say when he thought Tesco should RR. Spa2k is no longer posting, along with Tars and others. We cannot expect everyone to agree on every point but I think a little more respect should be given to EVERYONES opinion whether you agree with it or not.
There, I had to say it!!Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0 -
I have worked in a supermarket as a customer service manager, and it is left up to discretion at times.
But I have ALWAYS found if you right to head office you will get more. Not sure why but every single time you will get more. Address letter to chief exec of TESCO and you will get a good repsonse.0 -

I don`t think the thread has turned into a joke, it is still healthy discussion and everyone does have their opinion, of course not everyone will agree to others opinions but thats what is good about it all, i agree that spa2k and tars gave very informative contributions to the post, but... if people take umbridge to things being said and say "pah, i`m not posting anymore because of that" then that is up to them (reminds me of my 6 year old not getting her own way!) even with them not posting i am sure we are able to carry on! and we have lots of new people joining who when you say spa2k and tars they don`t even know who you mean or why you refer to them so its history really, also, new tesco employees have joined us who also give us lots of help and information which is great, new opinions and information as well as healthy discussion :j Long live the thread! :beer:0 -
regarding items with a SEL including an out of date "offer ends...." label, i would think it wise not to try for R & R on these things unless you were actually really, really wanting them anyway. You may find yourself lumbered with things like phones, as, I think their refund policy is different for phones. (anyone know for sure?). Would not like to think anyone got stuck with something so expensive, could prove a mini financial disaster. i couldn't afford to get stuck with one so will stick to my dead certs (coke & steak!!! etc.)credit card debt at LBM Nov 2006 £11,300:eek:
credit card debt now £0000000000000!!! :j
