Tesco Batley, lots of mobile phones with out of date special offer yellow labels, the one I tried came up at the offer price, someone might get lucky if they try some of the others..

I think its a bit of a con by tescos. I scanned all the expired offer phones and they all still had the offer price.

might just be that nobody changed the prices today in the office, if they are still there tomorrow might be worth a go

How is that a con?! If they had charged a higher price everyone would be running around saying it was an organised plot to rip off customers.

How dare they have the right price on things! The fiends! ;)

It is a con if there was no offer in the 1st place. What I meant was; T sticks a label on a phone offer expiring 16/04/06 at such and such a price for instance. People on the 15th see this and think "!!!!!! me, offer runs out tommorow, better buy it today before offer expires, and price goes up." So more people buy phone thinking it will be more expensive later, and when the 16th rolls round the offer expires and the price stays the same. There is the con I am referring to.

At the risk shattering the con artist theory I will try and explain this one:

If a product is on offer in Tesco it will have a yellow label. This is any special offer, price reduction, BOGOF, 33% free etc. The phones at Tesco have recently been on a "Save £20 when you spend £40 instore" so hence have yellow special offer labels. But seeing as the price hasn't actually changed the labels still show the normal price, but are yellow due to the offer. When the offer ran there would have been accompanying POS stating the "Spend £40 save £20" offer.

The offer finished on the 16th. Its just that in your store the PI department haven't got round to changing them back to white labels. With it being bank holiday I would guess there were fewer staff so they concentrated on changing the labels that have legal consequences (i.e. price increases).

No sharp practice, no conning anyone.

Theres 2 possibilites here. The first is that this is all part of a planned con. The second is that somethings gone slightly off with the offer. Dates/prices or something like that (I haven't looked into it that closely and I don't plan to). What I can tell you is that I completely believe that its the second of those two options.

Well that explains that then, cheers. The con comments were a bit tongue in cheek in keeping with the spirit of other posts though. ;)

My bad.. I didn't pick up on the sense of humour. I admit its alittle easy to get defensive with some of the claims on this site (hence why I took a wee break) :)

Don't worry about it, possibly my fault, my OH always says I have no sense of humour, and I should stop inflicting it (or the lack of it) upon people forthwith.

I'm probably being dense but I can't get my head around the yellow and white labels especially on Finest products. I get the impression that people think that all the special offers will have a yellow label with the before and after prices. But some Finest foods have the old type white labels and no sign of any price reductions. Both my local stores insist that ALL Finest products have been reduced already and the price shown reflects the 20% - whatever colour the label is and whether or not the reduction is mentioned.

I've been told (by a manager) that its all a question of trust and I have to trust Tesco to get it right ! Well I don't feel that trusting - I really don't see how the customer can be expected to know its been reduced if we don't know the before and after prices. And Tesco can't tell me what the price was before the reduction which makes me suspicious that the price hasn't actually changed.
