I think my only problem with R&R is the fact some people seem to be very greedy. As I said if it wouldnt be in your normal shop then you are only doing it for profit and that is why some of you get banned.

I have seen misprices myself but either checked with staff before going through till. Or ask for it to go through it first so I can mention it and get it for the lowest price on the SEL.

On Saturday I was with my son and we tried to get R&R on the Narnia DVD as there was a (handwritten) sign saying it was £9.95. CS assistant wasn't having any of it, saying it was because we'd used self scan till and when scanning it we'd said we agreed to the price (which was true). Eventually we had to make do with the difference. Then we found out she'd only given us the difference between £14.97 and £9.96 whereas the sign had stated the price was £9.95. This was apparently down to "human error" and we were offered 1p but told her she could keep it.

Anyway today I decided to return it and the CS assistant (a different one) gave me back £14.47 so we didn't do too badly after all from that deal even if we didn't manage to get R&R on the DVD.

Incredible. So you self scanned the Narnia DVD and the till came up with a price verify at £14.97. You then obviously agreed to pay £14.97 and transaction went through. Then all of a sudden you decided actually you didn't want to pay £14.97. So with this change of mind you go to customer service desk believing you should get the DVD for free.

Why should you be entitled to it free? YOU agreed to pay £14.97 at the till. It is true that Narnia was on offer 9.96 at the time. Anyone else would have not agreed to the 14.97 at the point of sale, and a member of staff would have overided the price. It is no surprise she wouldn't give you it free, it was quite obvious what you were deliberately trying to achieve. The till asked you if your satisfied with the price, if you werern't thats the time to sort it out.

(To give a bit of background Narnia was on offer at 9.96 for the first week of release. For some unknown reason, head office (bless them) increased the price to 14.97 early. this was acknowledged as a mistake and a Price Verify put onto the tills for this product. All cashiers were made aware of this, and were able to manually correct the price at the price verify when it was scanned through the till. Self service tills also have the price verify, if the customer selects No then a staff member sorts the problem)

Tesco in Wrexham were still selling Narnia for £9.87 on the 11th so I bought it. Hate paying over a tenner for dvd`s.

    Hi

was wondering if anyone could help me
yesterday i went to tescos to get a few bits to keeps kids amused during school hols, one of the things i purchased was king kong for psp.

after i paid i noticed i had been overcharged so went to cs,explained about covercharge and she said no problem and gave me 3p back
i then politely explained that im sure if i am overcharged then the item would be refunded and i got to keep the item.
she called a manager (i had to wait half an hour as all managers at lunch)who came along and said that it wasnt an overcharge as shelf label stated the price that i had been charged,i explained that the sticker on the product showed different price he basically said tough and he wasnt going to offer a refund and if i didnt like it i should contact head office

so can anyone give me some advice on what i can do next?

    thanks

Kelly - contact Head Office. Explain the situation to them and refer to the R&R policy on the wall. Ask how come this didn't apply to your situation.

Let us know how you get on.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!
  • 0800505555 - head office number - tip - be really nice and polite and chatty with the scottish staff. Do not rant at them, they are not in the store. They will normally send you a money card.

It is illegal for shops to sell things at more than their advertised price. The fines involved are quite large (I think the shop is charged per mispriced item, and I believe it's as much as £1,000 per item... you do the maths).
Now I guess we could do the honest thing and report T to trading standards.
Alternatively we can accept their "kind gesture" and keep quiet (apart from, of course, updating the misprice forum). If they are then too dumb to take corrective action then is it really our fault?
T obviously knows what it is doing, and it r&r policy is there for a reason (as they are not in the business of handing out freebies). So make the most of it, and feel no remorse. It's not every day you get something for nothing.

Do you REALLY believe you get something for nothing?

I have posted a few times and mentioned how Tesco are "viewing" the site and don't seem to be going to change their R+R poicy at the moment, but if more R+R's go through and the profit margin is eaten into do you think Tesco will do nothing?

They will either pull the policy (which I think is unlikely) back to the industry norm, or find a way of gaining margin from other methods (pricing). Either way you won't be getting something for nothing in the long run.

I suppose YOU may be getting something for nothing but EVERYONE else will have to pay for it. Use the policy but don't abuse it.
  • I did (actually i bribed my husband as i was too nervous) my first r&r today. It was for pork joints and the sel said £2.39 per kg but the label on the packet and it went thro the till at £2.79 per kg. I got 3 joints so am well stocked up now!!

This was at the Lakeside, thurrock Tesco Extra
