  • On Saturday I was with my son and we tried to get R&R on the Narnia DVD as there was a (handwritten) sign saying it was £9.95. CS assistant wasn't having any of it, saying it was because we'd used self scan till and when scanning it we'd said we agreed to the price (which was true). Eventually we had to make do with the difference. Then we found out she'd only given us the difference between £14.97 and £9.96 whereas the sign had stated the price was £9.95. This was apparently down to "human error" and we were offered 1p but told her she could keep it.

Anyway today I decided to return it and the CS assistant (a different one) gave me back £14.47 so we didn't do too badly after all from that deal even if we didn't manage to get R&R on the DVD.

  • Today in Tescos I was walking around when over the tannoy came an announcement that there was 20% off of clothing, shoes, etc today. I was with my Aunt who was visiting from the USA and we went over the the section and stocked up on T-shirts and other stuff. When I got to the Checkout there was no 20% taken off, so I went to customer services and asked why. This is her EXACT answer "Oh that announcement was a mistake - there isn't 20% or anything off - she put the wrong tape in!!" I ashed why they had not announced a retraction but she just shrugged and said I could have my money back if I wanted. I said that that wasn't good enough and that I wanted my discount or the price policy to apply. She said there was nothing she was prepared to do. I went away and rang the store but got the same CS woman who chased me. I then rang Dundee and they said that they would send me discount vouchers for the 20% off plus a Tesco voucher to the value of another 20% off, but they did not think the price policy applied. What do you think I should do? I am more annoyed by the rude CS assistant than anything.

contact trading standards. be as comprehensive as you can. i know you have no evidence, but try to convey how incovenienced you were/how rude they were, giving names if poss.

does anyone know whats tescos policy on returning r & r goods. i have bought an electrical item and got a full refund as the price was incorrect but was wondering could i return the item and get a credit note or purchase another item instead. i know its a bit cheeky but its better then selling it on ebay. any sugestions.

I have asked a few time about warrently on R+R stuff and the answer is different everytime, some say the warrenty still stands but I could not have a refund as I received it free. other stores say no warrenty at all becasue I didnt pay for it.

Returning stuff has been covered before but I dont think you can do it unless the product is faulty in which case they would have to replace it, I dont know what would happen if they didnt have any more in stock to replace it with. proberbly a credit note, I think returning a R+R for a credit note is a bit cheeky. if you didnt want it in the first place why buy it?

Reading all the posts along with my own experiences of issues with R+R has anyone actually contacted Watchdog regarding these problems, I'm sure it would make a nice article with the MD of Tesco saying that people are abusing the system in his defence of dubious practices by his own staff. :rotfl:

Give it to someone who can benefit from it.

Went for R&R on the Edam cheese last week at my local Tescos, Trent Vale. Lady behind Customer Services said they had stopped the R&R due to people taking advantage of this service and that she would only give me the difference. She said they'd taken down all the posters in reference to the R&R - funny thing was that right behind her was the poster on the board! As soon as I pointed this out she said "well I guess you want this free cheese then..", her attitude changed and she was really nowty towards me - heheh.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across this situation, I assume it's not right for them to override a company policy?

Stores cannot override company policy on refunds. The policy is there as a sorry for customers who have been overcharged. I would contact CS at Dundee.

Grrrr to staff who can't calculate 20% easily. Annoying, isn't it?

As for the above, you should only get 2 packets refunded as it's a cashier error, not a system error. I know this is different for different stores, but the general rule is cashier errors are not R+R.

iT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER THEY ARE CASHIER OR SYSTEM ERRORS R& R STILL APPLIES.

The warranty stands....12 months as long as you keep your receipt. The fact that you got an R+R does not affect your statutory rights. However if you tried to return it you should get back what you paid for it........nothing.

I know this isnt going to go down well. So maybe dont read on.
I have recently started to read this board because I am trying to cut down on my spending. I fully understand what R&R is and is ok used when you have been overcharged for something you have bought.

But I think it is unacceptable to buy things just so you can get them for free. Some people buy more than one, some people are selling on there gains. Meat is another one you are quoteing getting R&R on £44 of meat, is that what you always spend or only when you realise there is a a mistake. I very rarely spend more than £10 a week on meat and I am not in dept at the moment but see I have a problem. So I can only assume that these large quantities are bought to make more on the R&R that is dishonest.
As I said probably wont be liked but it had to be said.
