Hey dude
I agree about buying other stuff to hide your r+r unfortunatly I dont do the weekly shop but if my mum or gran are going to tesco I will go with them just to have a look round see if I can find anything to post back on here, if I can use the item I will buy and if not then I leave it there.
I also call in to stores that I travel near for work (yeah I get paid to look for r+r's) I have a set of points of intrest for tesco stores on my sat nav and just see if there are any on my route. If I find an item I want like the USB 250GB drive I will also buy some snacks and drinks for in the car, I would not buy just a basket of r+r's.
The thing about removing the SEL and returning it after the offer expires is going too far and I hope the person gets the due punishment. I actually enjoy the chase for an r+r, I had nothing to do the other night so I took a trip round the M60 near Manchester and visited the stores, Prestwich, Stalybridge, Stockport, Baguley and Altrincham found nothing i wanted but it was better than sitting watching tv. stealing the SEL isnt very sportsman like.

[re Narnia dvd] Be ready with the "I'm sorry I seem to have forgot my credit card" excuse with this one - tried at 4 different stores and the till brings up reminder for the SA to overide the £14 price - got charged correctly every time, even though they scan at higher price. They have a glitch that "won't be sorted until Monday" (Tesco speak for the price is going up to £14 then, but someone's increased the computer price too soon)
New R & R though - Holy Blood and the Holy Grail - stickered at £3.97, scans £4.73 (only found 1 in all the 4 stores though, but still worth a look)
No prompt to override at self scans0 -

"It is not the act of R&R that makes it fraudulent but rather the "Intention" behind it." If you intentionally choose mispriced items with the sole purpose of getting it R&Red under Tesco policy, then it constitute fraud, pure and simple.

A possible parallel that comes to mind could be home insurance accidental cover. Now if accidentally you break a vase or something else then you can rightfully make a claim and get the price of the item paid by the insurance company (you might even be able to glue the vase together and continue using it). It is perfectly OK.
However, if you were to intentionally knock the vase over and have an accident then any claim on the insurance policy constitute fraud.
You are wrong - they are not the same actions - insurance is covering an accident, and deliberately breaking an item is by definition not an accident. The actual outcome may be the same (ie broken item), but both the intention and action are different, and in your example claiming as an accident would indeed be fraud as the action was not an accident as covered by the policy.
In the case of R&R, the policy covers overcharging, plain and simple. If you are charged more than the SEL, then you have been overcharged, that definition does not change whatever the intention.
I like to ask how people behave if they are undercharged at a shop? Do you tell the cashier they have got it wrong? Do you take the bonus with a happy smile? If you don't notice till you get home - do you phone up or post the extra back in a little envelope?
I was overcharged the other day at PCWorld for £6 on a £18 item - that is a whopping 33%. I would have been delighted to R&R, but only got my £6 back. The use of SEL pricing makes it harder for the consumer to check they are not overcharged and it is clear from these threads that it is a massive problem.
The question about intent actually goes to the likes of tesco, and their actions - they are systematically overcharging customers because they cant get it right or because they don't want to? Afterall - they are the ones in control of pricing.
BTW I have never had an R&R from tescos0 -
At the end of the day, Tesco is breaking the law with all these multiple prices plain and simple. They should be grateful it's us finding these (and giving us a luvvly jubbly refund to say thanks for spotting the problem) rather than let Trading Standards give them a luvvly jubbly fine.
I really don't see what the big deal is, seems a pretty simple win-win situation to me.0 -

Spot on Amos. In fact I must venture to T again to get some RRs and keep him out of trouble!!!0 -
I am trying not to R&R in my local Tescos too often, hit them a fair bit for meat and the v220. But its so hard to resist when you see blatant misprices. I'll have to go for a run out further afield to feed my addiction.0

How often can you keep returning to the same CS desk for RR? Even if in with your weekly shop? Although I know (before anyone reminds me!) Tesco are wrong and its cheaper for then than trading standards fines etc etc I really dont think I'd be able to do it. Ok I may be in my rights to do so but I really dont think I could.Auntie Savingsgirl 24/9/06 :j0

Which is why I try not to do it often in my local one, the one that I go to for R&R is a bit further, its a lot busier and lots of different people on CS desk. Try varying the days and times you go shopping to get different CS people.0

Part of the reason Tesco have such a policy is so that a customer WILL go to the CSD and get a R+R. If the store is worth its salt it will deal with the problem at the first attempt and will not have the trading standards people on its back for overcharging huge numbers of customers. By the sound of it many stores do not follow the issue through and then get upset when the same customer comes through week after week.
The painful bit for Tesco is when someone buys say 3 MP3 players (which not many people do) and then asks for £450 back.
I know it is policy to R+R on the full amount, but for your own sake buy 1 at a time and go to different stores.0 -
I have only tried to R+R twice and on both times have failed and made to feel like a criminal. I think Tesco should either be curtious and honest when dealing with R+R's or scrap the policy altogether. :mad:0
