Well, I am definitely one of your so called "few". But judging by reality and the read of this board, it seems as though the majority experience the same.0 -
i thought customer services were there to help customers, but by the sounds of previous replys they seam to go out of there way to stop customers receiving r & r.
we shouldnt have to put up with bad service, sugest that we take the employees name and write to head office and compain if we come across bad service.0 -
Well today was the first time I ever used the mispricing to my advantage to get something free from Tesco. I've been reading for a bit and quite basically didn't really figure out what to do until I got there. I spent a whole 2 hours there (!!), at least an hour on the meat and fish area alone (much to the bemused looks of the ladies on the meat counter heh).
TBH is wasn't very clear from the board how to actually go about doing it but I think I've got it figured out now with the SEL and the hidden barcode prices and stuff. I found several products which didn't tally up with the SEL, all but a few actually worked out to be cheaperI wasn't sure if you could get the R&R if the item was cheaper so decided against getting them, as I think the R&R only counts if you've been over-charged, not under-charged??
I did notice one product had the SEL of (something like) £4.16/kg & £2.20/lb but the product label had £4.15/kg & £2.20/lb [note the 4.15 price]. Although the product worked out to be cheaper than SEL, would that count as it's like a rounding error? Technically although the price was the same, what I'm paying per kg was a penny different. Does that count??
I also found a block of my favourite cheese (Mexicana Ilchester) hadn't been labeled correctly in the help yourself cheese baskets. They have it labeled as a cheap chedder so got a few £££ off a big block that scanned as something other. If the checkout guy knew his cheese he would have noticed something was wrong but he didn't say if he did lol.
One beef joint was very similar to another they were having on sale at the end of the aisle, even though it was packaged slightly differently. So I bought the non-discount one and when I went back through the store to show the CS guy where it was mis-labeled. He seemed dubious that it was the same product - so we went through the spec, it was a joint of beef with added basting fat etc. I said to him that trading standards would undoubtedly agree that this IS actually the same product, the only main difference being the wording of the expensive one. My label didn't have the word "joint" on, but I held it up, gave the CS guy a funny look and asked him if it wasn't a huge joint of beef, then what the heck was it? lol He agreed
It took no more than 5 mins in total to get it all sorted and I was a happy bunny. I hope next time doesn't take 2 hours and I won't have to prat about with the in-store scanner checking everything lol, but I think I've got it sussed now.
Thank to you all, you've given me lots of cheap/free meat and cheese - and I'm on an Atkins like diet so it's all I eatWill I ever have to pay for food again??

No, if the price you pay is less than the SEL, then r & r does not apply. It only applies to overcharges. You can try and pay the extra if you like, but the cs staff may look at you funnyWho or what was I before you came in to my life

Only just discovered this forum so apologies for any ignorance. Is it only Tesco that has the r & r policy?
I have been checking my till receipts in supermarkets for years and have experienced countless visits to customer services for over-charging in a variety of supermarkets - Safeways were the worst!0 -

Yes, only Tesco give you your money back and let you keep the product. The others, in the main, seem to make it up as they go along.Who or what was I before you came in to my life

Josie,
You are right in that Tesco is a private company and their stores are private property and with the Law as it stands presently they could probably ban you and I etc…..
However, the beauty of the law is that "IT IS NOT STATIC". My point was that if Tesco ban somebody simply because they do not like their shopping pattern etc. then this could be challenged in LAW possibly using the ECHR (European Convention on Human Right) or another Law of the land which could question whether Tesco's action was REASONABLE.
Private companies should exercise their rights responsibly under the law such that it is not to the detriment of the society. Companies the size of Tesco do have a social responsibility and moral obligation. If they do not act accordingly, new laws will be brought in to clip their wings and force them to act reasonably and socially acceptable.
Just to give you an example, if you do not pay your utility bills (gas, electricity., telephone etc) the companies can cut off your supply to force you to pay. When Water companies started cutting off supply because of customer's water debt (after the companies became private) the law changed so that they would not be allowed to cut off customers water supply. It was considered that having your water supply cut off to be inhumane and unreasonable as it is a vital lifeline.
This is off course not to condone any unacceptable behaviour that some R&Rer may have exhibited whilst having their adrenaline rush. One cannot comment without knowing each individual case however, people who have been banned must have pushed their luck just too far. From what I have read here some people appear to be too aggressive against the CS and don't realise that they should not try to win every battle in order to win the war. BM0 -

It may be a tesco policy to give you the money back and you keep the product but the reality is CS and managers "seem to make it up as they go along " in some instances.0 -
what concerns me is that in my local store the cs staff, however pleasant, and some of them are very nice, ALWAYS try to refund the difference first. In the 3 months i have been going I have dealt with maybe 6 or 7 different staff who have all done the same. it is obvious what the training around R & R is in this store. i have shopped in another store about 20 miles away, where the cs were really nice and they just refund the full amount. no argueing, no calling every department manager in the store and no 30 minute wait. p.s. i always try and be nice to them, but last time they were really, really nasty with me.credit card debt at LBM Nov 2006 £11,300:eek:
