webrits wrote:How do you spot misprices on electrical goods?
Besides out-of-date SEL's (yellow ones) and physically self scanning products is there any other tell-tale way of knowing??
no, or everyone would be doing it :-)
getting off your @rse and putting some hard work into it is the only way i'm afraidmoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I just can't help but think I look suspicious dragging a Dyson to the opposite end of the store (scanner location) then dragging it back when it scans correctly. Then doing the same with a Microwave etc etc......0

Go to a big busy store and do it without looking to shifty!0

3 stores ive encountered dreadful cs in......I can only compare them to dragons.Including one store manager who couldnt read what it said in front of him or his own store policy.Ive now given up trying to get r&rs hate tesco to point I'll only shop online now for points.
Was wondering how these 3 woman and man actually enjoy going into work or whether they like gunning for a fight.Got to point you cant reason with idiots.
These stores refused me r&r bush set top box, fishfingers, farfalle pasta,ps2 games and tesco mobile over last few months. On a £95 shop they refused to refund 2 lousy packs of fishfingers made me feel like a criminal and kept me waiting over an hour despite cs on phone telling them to refund. All i could do was demand my full shop refunded as it had defrosted.Did it online later that night and got bonus points. This was with 4 kids in tow and my partner with his broken foot in a cast.I'm disgusted.0 -

If the price per kg/lb on the pack is higher than that detailed on the SEL, then that is an r & r. However, make sure that the item in your hand is the same as the label you are looking at as different pack sizes can have different price per KG
Edit - to make absolutly sure the label matches the product, you want to compare the first 6 digits of the barcode to the first 6 digits of the barcode on the SEL - the second 13 digit number at the bottom (not trying to suggest everyone does this all the time, just thats how to check!)
Apparently this doesn't apply in my local store - the price per kg on the SEL is only an indication of the price on the pack, and they can charge whatever they like per kg on the pack and because the pack price will be calculated correctly at whatever that price is, you HAVE NOT been overcharged!! Had many a disagreement at CS about this, mostly to no avail.
Apparently they have a notice to bring this policy to customer's attention - I know, because the lady from CS desk pointed it out to me - it was in a book, under the CS desk, and after flicking through 20 pages or so, lo and behold she was right, there it was!!
Apparently this policy is approved by the local trading standards (it isn't - because it was me that reported it, and TS told me afterwards the store no longer had this policy and had removed the signs from their shelves - which they had - just not the one in the CS book!).
I reported them again after they continued to say it didn't matter what the SEL said (and this was when the 25% off signs were about, enticing customers into thinking they had a good deal), but apparently they only have to put up signs saying the prices are reduced, they don't REALLY need to reduce them, and you haven't been overcharged....
The second time TS said the confusion must have been because I picked up the wrong product, but I know with 100% certainty that I had the right product and it was definately the wrong price per kg compared to the SEL and Tescos were pulling the wool over TS eyes...
I no longer look for misprices on meat, cheese etc in this particular store because they won't give it you.0 -
I had one really nice CS who said he would get me a refund on a home cinema system if he had to hold a gun to the manager's head - he said it was the only result that should happen because I had been overcharged. He even sorted it while I did the rest of my shopping and when I went back it was all authorised. He also took pains to explain the item was still covered by guarantee and I could return it for a replacement if it was faulty, but obviously not a refund!! Full marks to him!
Worst experience was basically being told in another store I had been overcharged by Tescos too many times, so I couldn't have r & rs any longer, only the difference.... or words to that effect.
How can it be my fault when they are the ones charging the incorrect price??0 -

I know the feeling. i've dragged half the shop to the till over the last 4 months and many a time have conveniently forgotton my credit card. Then suddenly the dyson will go through at the higher price and the blood begins to rush as you are off to CS with that RR all the time wondering if CS are going to make a scene or politely hand over the money as they should.0 -
1-If you have received bad CS then make a formal complaint to the head office, obviously ensure that you don't sound like a carpetbagger regarding the R&R .
2-If items continue to be mispriced at your particular Tesco then raise the issue with your local councils Trading Standards office ( all county councils should have a TS office).
3- For the ones who have been banned from Tesco….this is likely to be an infringement of your human rights and is likely to be challengable under the European convention for human rights.
This is particularly why the office of fair trading does not wish to see one super market becoming totally dominant. As the result of these supermarkets getting bigger and bigger the competition (small corner shops/mini markets) are closing shops and as consumers you have less choice.
This reality comes home if you have been banned at your local Tesco stores and there are no other shops in your vicinity.
Having said all this and having read through this forum for a while it is apparent that some people are abusing the Tescos' policy quite belligerently and perhaps should take a step back and reflect upon there motives and actions.
Allow common sense to prevail…. Just because you can do something ….it doesn't mean that you should.
We should all remember our responsibilities as well as our rights because if one does not act responsibly the rights we enjoy will eventually disappear specially as we all pay for the misdemeanor of a few.

I work for tesco's customer services desk (though not on the moment as I'm on maternity, which is soon to end
) and I've fully refunded quite a few big things, like tv's and playstations. I love doing it when the customer is surprised or just lovely and you feel happy for them. But then you get the people who come and tell you your job and do it every week, and they do wear you down. If you find something is wrong, start off by asking nicely. If someone's nice to me then I go out of my way to help them. But if they're funny with me or argue straight away or throw things at me and call my some awful names, as some people do, I'm awkward back.
