Sparky67 wrote:Last night we were refused an R&R on some meat, because it was now company policy that if it is a weighed product, it doesn't matter if the price per Kg on the product is different to that advertised on the shelf, because the pack price is what you look at and that's what you are charged, so hence you have not been overcharged.
I have had this problem in another Tesco store in my area, and after reporting them to trading standards, TS reported back they had told Tescos not to run this policy as it is misleading (although they still do it). However, they're now saying its been extended to other stores now on Head Office instructions. Has anyone else had this or was the manager talking rubbish?
Incidentally, we shall overlook the fact the product I was querying was not weighed - it was chicken mini fillets and they are £2.38 on the SEL - per product, not per Kg, but we were charged £2.97! Straight overcharge.
And they did do an R&R on a wrongly stickered CD without a quibble, so its not like they try to get out of them on prinicple...
Anyone had this problem with price per kg products?
Nope - got some meat this morning - my next amusing tale will be published IDC

Going back to the mobile phones,
I checked out the Chichester store. There was 1 phone with a white SEL, upon checking the promotional leaflet this white SEL was the price with 10% off, im not sure why it wasnt a red promotional SEL, but be careful.

I know this is off track on this discussion but it is still about Tesco policy and I wanted to know if I am being given the right information. I bought some sandals for my 5 year old lad for his holidays a couple of weeks ago, and while he was wearing them the stitching came undone at the heel and made them useless to wear. So I took them back yesterday to get a refund because they are not fit for the purpose and faulty, but, I was told I could only exchange like for like because I didnt have the receipt. (I didnt keep it because as they fitted him I didnt see any other problem). I looked at the same shoes and they didnt have his size in stock. Then because I had bought them at another branch they told me to go back there (costing me petrol to sort this out?) and see if they could 'help' me. I wasn't in the mood for a discussion and came away. But surely if the goods aren't fit for the purpose it doesnt matter whether I have a receipt or not does it, to get a refund and I certainly dont want the same item if it falls apart after 3 wears. Can any of you informed people advise me who is right, please.DTD - Doing Tesco Daily - while I still have vouchers!0

Hi,
I think I'm right in saying that under existing legislation that with any goods 'not fit for purpose' the consumer should be given a full refund on the production of proof of purchase (POP).
POP does not have to be the receipt (although this makes things easier) - it can be a bank or credit card statement IIRC.
Most stores will - as a goodwill gesture - give you a credit note if it is blindingly obvious that they supplied the goods and no POP is available.
And no - you shouldn't have to travel to the store of origin.
I think (emphasis on think) that I'm correct - others may know different,

The latest episode of Carry On Shopping.....
I bought a big pack of pork chops this morning - Pack had £4.64 KG and the actual price was £6.10.
The SEL was £4.59 KG.
Off to CS we go.
Dude: "Hello - I think I've been charged too much for my meat - I'm sure the shelf label was cheaper".
CS has a good look at my pork loins "£6.10 is right - the shelf says £4 and 60-something - that's the price per KG Sir!"
Dude: "Can we have a look at the shelf please."
Off we trot.
CS: "There you are Sir, it's the price per KG".
Dude: "But is says £4.59 a KG and my pack has £4.64".
Cue - the penny dropping - back to the CS Desk we go - CS is clutching one of the correctly priced packs of chops."
CS with winning smile and holding her chops aloft: "Would you like to exchange the packs and have this one instead?"
Dude with stupid grin and clutching his big packet of quality meat for dear life: "No thanks! I bought this one".
CS Team conference time - they are trying to work out how much I should have been charged with the intention of refunding the difference - they can't do it - even with the Battalion Calculator.
The CS lady is told by scary looking CS Team Leader to refund my purchase and then charge me for the other pack of correctly priced meat......
CS: "Can I have the card you paid with Sir?"
Dude: "Here you go" - refund is processed.
I then ask for my card back - it and the refund receipt is returned.
I then slowly pick up my original pack of chops - scary CS Team Leader has disappeared to no doubt suck some life-force out of a new trainee - bag my original chops - smile at the CS lady - "Thanks for your help - bye!"
CS smiles - "Bye!"
Oh I'm such a naughty Dude - I still can't figure out if the CS lady realised that I knew the R&R policy and gave in or if she actually forgot to attempt to charge me for the other pack of pork.......

Still reeling after my visit to cs yesterday. As my above post tells, I know I'm recognised in asda by cs and it's all good-natured.
There's 4 tescos in my area, I tend to shop at whichever 1 is convenient on the day. 1 particular store is en-route to my parents house, so I guess I've visitied it 3 times in the last 4/5 weeks or so. All recent r&r's have been for less than £15.
There's 1 cs lady (cs1) there who always seems put out, on my first r&r she took nearly an hour to process it - no dispute over any of the items, just claimed it takes that long to process them!
So yesterday, I have 2 packs of mince (total value £1.96), I've been charged £2.40 so off I go to cs. While I'm dealing with cs1, cs2 goes off on an errand. I always tell cs I'll accompany them to SEL, yesterday said nothing but followed her anyway. As cs2 approaches on return to desk, cs1 announces "I hate that lady"! She could only have been refering to me. She showed no surprise when she noticed me behind her at the meat shelves, but processed my r&r very quickly and overly nice.
I'm still gobsmacked. This woman knows nothing about me but felt entitled to speak of me with such passionate dislike.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -
I saw this post in the mispriced threadsarabob wrote:The new red SLVR phones (the charidee ones) have an "introductory price" of £116.97 but no mention of the 10% discount (I guess from £130, but this price isn't mentioned anywhere in store). Dunno how you can say it's 10% off a price they have never had though.
I tried this a few weeks ago and it didnt work, but I was at one of the harder stores near me for giving r+r Ive had 3 really good items and all failed at this tore even with a blatent over charge. When I tried for the phone it was to replace my sisters phone but I didnt get it. good luck if you try it.0 -

 OOOh if only...see if that was me, and she was right in front of me at the meat shelves and commented like that with me right behind her...I'd of took advantage of the situation. Clouted her one in the eye and promptly handed her a packet of steak for inconvienience................::rotfl:
On a perfectly serious note...I'm sorry to hear that, perhaps a written complaint to higher echelons would do the trick.0 -
Hi,
I had a similar experience to Sparky with the mini chicken fillets - pack 2.97 SEL 2.38.
Went back to shelf with CS - she tried to swop it for a stickered one at 2.38 - but she agreed they all looked a bit 'off'.
back at desk she would only give the difference in price - said pack was new and priced correctly .
I ended up accepting that as I was getting nowhere and embarrassed as everyone was listening!!!
Was annoyed

I had a similar experience today with large pork chop packs in a small metro store. The cs team leader agreed the price was wrong per kilo and said all he could do was swap my 2 packs for 2 of the correctly priced packs. I mentioned r&r policy and he daid 'thats at my discretion, I'm the team leader and I'm not giving you £10 of free meat!' he was fairly in my face about it. I said i understood that r&r was national policy and wasn't there a notice up somewhere about it. He muttered a bit under his breathe and then stomped off to the desk and literally threw my chops across it - almost hitting another staff member with them. He went off to a phone saying he was going to get advice - all the while talking in an intimidating way and clearly thinking he could scare me off. The staff member who had got walloped with the chops started to ask me what was the matter and the other guy shouted at him that nobody was to talk to me ! he then slammed the phone down and rushed off out of sight with my receipt. I asked another staff member nearby if there was a store manager or if the cs man was in charge and she said she thought he'd gone off to find the manager.
the manager didn't appear but after about 10 minutes the other man came back and said he'd been told ' to give me r&r on thos occasion only but that it wasn't a wrong price, the packers had put the prices on, it was nothing to do with the store and the sels came from HQ so the store didn't know anything about the price change '. I said that I thought he was wrong and that the price was obviously different on the packs and sel and again mentioned the price promise notice. He agreed there was a notice and pointed to a small copy of it over the till - he then actually read out the relevant paragraph to me and his face dropped lower and lower as he read it. He then gave me a big smile, apologised and gave me my refund and chops. Didn't ask for my name etc but refused to give me back my receipt.
He didn't say anything about head office changing the policy on variable weight products so he couldn't have known about it.
Incidentally, I've only known about this poicy for a few weeks thanks to this forum and I'd like to thank everyone for their tips. My freezer is looking very happy at the moment.ELITE 5:2
