the 2 that opened round here last year had the same amount as the store I used to shop in.
More hassle at CS though as staff are less aware of the policy, so more people need to be called.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Okay - on another tack entirely - I'd appreciate everyone's views on the following:
I R&R occassionally and always go with the "Oh what a lovely surprise" route when they give me all of the money back. However I'm getting to the point where I'm sure that I will starting repeat R&Ring in the same stores with the same CS employees. Do people try and time it to get somebody else or is everyone openly brazen about it. I don't want to the point whereby I get banned from stores. I know that going at different times, avoiding stores for a while and going elsewhere etc... are all ways round the issue, but does anyone R&R to the extent that the know when you buy something that you are going straight to CS afterwards. Just interested what tactics people employ?0 -

Wouldn't worry too much about the different times of day - as some of the CS staff work on a rota system - go too late/early and you'll get someone who's just covering the CS desk, and will be unaware of the policy.
In the last few weeks, a member of CS has not only greeted me with "hello AGAIN", but introduces me to the other staff members working at CS.
Yet to be followed around the store (although the eye in the sky may be doing so).
If you do get the "you again" type response, then the done thing is to reply, "Yes, I have been OVERCHARGED again".0 -

Don't worry about it! You are doing nothing wrong but merely exploiting a policy that senior management created to find out which stores have the poorest price controls! When I was in Bristol on a training course I used to walk up to the CS lady and she'd say with a wry smile "what have you got this time?". As an example I got "Coke" three nights in a row in that store (16x24 cans)! You'll be recognised before long but so what!Keep SmilingSite member number 24

It's perhaps that I have a sense of unfounded guilt about the whole issue!

It's actually called "Invitation to treat" and is a legal term.
Tesco invite you to buy the product at the advertised price (or the cheapest if there is more than one).
You decide to purchase it and go to the till. At this stage they are quite within their rights to refuse to sell it to you at that price if they suspect there is an error, or actually for any reason! If you tell them that the price is wrong before you pay for the goods they will correct it. This of course rules out an "R & R" as you will not been overcharged!
Variable weight products are the easiest items to get through as there is no sign at the till that anything is wrong. Items that are stickered may be spotted if the CO person is "on the ball".
I find it strange that I know more about the labels (and how they work) than most Tesco staff!
Some tips if you don't already know:
Lamb Chops size 2-3 per pack
Bar code on pack: 0 230605 002707
Bar code on shelf is like this: 0 230600 000000/16
The first part of the bar code is the product identifier and should start the same if you want to ensure that you have the right item. The pack may have more numbers in the sequence than the shelf number as the batches vary! The last digit on the pack (in the example 7) is a check digit and should be ignored. The digits preceeding the last one are the price (£2.70) and will match the price you pay.
That is why it is a certainty that you will be overcharged if the SEL is cheaper per kg. The only way for them to correct this is with a yellow reduction label or remove the offending SEL. The "/16" number on the SEL is the 17th price for this particular item (as the first is 00). This is useful if there are two labels present as the higher number is the later (usually current) price.Keep SmilingSite member number 24

Not strictly on-topic re Tesco, but I'm well known to the cs staff at my local Asda (they only refund the difference, but give you a £2 gift voucher for each overcharge - more profitable when you've been overcharged on an item valued at less than £2).
Whenever I go to the kiosk, CS ladies always ask if I've got anything for them, all in good nature. As I now mostly shop at Tesco (because they accept more vouchers), my finds in Asda are few and far between. Have managed to amass £10 on 1 giftcard since February/March though.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0
