I've completely lost the plot now ! I thought you were cross because you exchanged £25 CC vouchers for £50 Clothing Only vouchers. Having spent them on £50 worth of clothes you changed your mind (for whatever reason) and took the items back for a refund. And then were upset because they would only give you back a £25 gift card which they said could only be spent on clothes - thereby forcing you to spend the value of your original £25 CC vouchers instore on clothes only.
That would be unfair if the gift card could ionly be spent on clothes - but I wasn't aware that tesco had department specific gift cards, I thought they were all for general use. Could be wrong there, maybe they have brought out some new ones for this promotion.
The gift card for £25 offered could only be used to buy clothes but I dont think this is true.0 -
if the clothes total £50, and you take them back to another store without a till receipt, then you should get a £50 refund
the only problem is you gave them the receipt - as it shows you used double cc vouchers - the T&C then it clearly states you will only be refunded the value of your original cc tokens you exchanged, so £25 - as these cant be recredited to your account they give you a refund card - these are not dept locked, they can be used for anything instore

It didn't make a difference with or without the recipt still was offered £50 worth exchange of clothes or a £25 gift card. Clothes can only be returned to the clothing desk, not normal customer services. I have never ever had a problem with the normal customer services.0 -

Of course, without a receipt, they might not offer a refund, just an exchange.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0 -

On one occasion, when I took something back without a receipt, I was offered the opportunity to exchange the item of clothing for anything in the Home & Wear Department as well as clothing, but I was not given a receipt for the exchange.0 -

So you changed your voucher for £50 worth of clothes vouchers which you spent. You are now being offered a refund in clothing vouchers of £50 which puts you back into exactly the same position?
The terms and conditions are very clear, once you change your clubcard vouchers for a deal voucher it cannot be changed to another deal, so when I changed mine for wine deals yesterday I was told I couldn't change my mind and have say clothes instead, and this is exactly what you are being told.
This is to stop people doubling up their vouchers then taking the goods back for cash or an 'open' credit note for anything instore..which is basically what I think you are trying to do.
It all seems very simple to me in that you made the decision to change your original vouchers into clothes vouchers and you can't now change your mind..or have I entirely misunderstood?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes this is common practice I'm afraid. It is to prevent their system from being exploited.
Enjoy your clothes0 -

I still don't understand how ,if you take back £50 worth of clothes WITHOUT A RECEIPT (so they won't know what method of payment you used) they are only offering you a £25 gift card if you ask for a refund rather than a straight exchange.
I know that Tesco do not HAVE to exchange/refund at all as the goods were not faultly and you just changed your mind but their ordinary T&Cs which have been in use for years do state that they will refund/exchange without a lot of hoo ha. And by agreeing to allow you to exchange the goods for £50 worth of other clothing they are clearly sticking to that policy. What I can't get my head around is what their excuse/reason is for saying that you can only have half the value on a gift card. Without the original transaction details they can't KNOW what payment method you used.
I fully understand that Tesco want to prevent anyone working a flanker and returning 'doubled up value' goods and getting the doubled up value on a gift card which can be used ANYWHERE in the store eg on food, but this is not the right way to go about it ! If its followed through to its logical conclusion, we will find that if we return ANY clothing items (or other stuff which they allow you to double up on) without a receipt, then we will only get back half of what we paid. And if I find that happening when I have paid in cash, then the doo doo will really hit the fan!
Tesco haven't thought this through. They need a system which allows them to issue refunds in a form that ensures the refunded cash can only be spent in the SAME department. This would stop devious people trying to exploit the system and shouldn't be too difficult. Even a simple handwriten credit note - which had to be redeemed at the CS Desk would do.
I suppose its possible that Tesco did find out how the OP had paid - if they were suspicious enough to track back through the original transaction details on computer. Depends on how far they wanted to go - seems like too much work though. Also, when this scheme was first talked about I seem to remember a post on MSE which mentioned the possibility of working exactly this trick to get double value on goods throughout the store. Is it possible that Tesco saw that post and blocked the loophole?ELITE 5:2

I have been shopping in the same Tescos superstore for over 25 years.
At no time have I ever seen a set of terms and conditions, let alone a set offering to exchange "without a lot of hoo ha".
I am not disputing that Tescos will exchange items and will offer refunds.
A few posters have made the assertion that there are some T&Cs that exist that grant Tescos shoppers consumer rights greater than those afforded under law.
Could some elucidate and tell me where I can find these T&Cs?On a seperate note, I am completely confused about what Tescos did or did not offer the Op in return for the £50 worth of clothes, so cannot comment on the validity of their offer!0 -

I read it the same, that the OP had hoped to return the clothes for a £50 refund purely to exploit the system. I think its good that Tescos have spotted any potential loop holes and closed them.0
