More than half of the TV sets sold in Europe are manufactured by Vestel, a Turkish company.
Practically all of the stores 'own' brands, Goodmans, Bush, Alba, Onn, Pacific, Techwood, Proline, Wharfedale, Finlux, Foehn & Hirsch etc etc, are Vestel rebadged (hence why the drawer is round the 'wrong way' on most of them, they all use the same parts!)
They also manufacture parts for the lower end of the TV ranges by well known manufacturers like Philips, JVC, Toshiba, Sharp, Hitachi, Grundig etc.
My Freeview PVR is a Proline (made by Vestel) and is identical (apart from the fascia) to Hitachi, Grundig and Sharp models that all cost 50% more when I bought the Proline!
Fact of the matter is, unless you are buying mid-range or higher, you may as well go for the cheapest option as the difference is usually purely cosmetic.0 -
Full marks to Money Saving Expert forums - I didn't realise this was an ebuyer brand name.
I think it does matter because until one knows differently, the natural perception is to think it is an homogeneous enterprise based around similar sourced products if not actually manufactured by them. Once one knows it is is ebuyer.com, then for good or ill one knows it is solely based around price.
The fact that the web site ww w.foehn-hirsch. com/ is hopelessly out of date; there are no support pages whatsoever (I was seeking a firmware upgrade and the google search brought up this Forum) really does denigrate the brand !0 -
. Anyone?
I haven't answered you to date as I have no idea of the answer. I am so not-technologically minded I still watch tv through my virgin box as I haven't worked out how to tune it in never mind anything as complex as you are asking. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

I personally don't think it matters what the name of any brand is, as long as the company behind it delivers quality and long lasting products.
As for Samsung being British, well that's a load of tosh! It was founded in the late 60's in Suwon, South Korea and has it's headquarters in Samsung Town!0 -
I got my 19" lcd tv through a 3rd party and it was only priced up by around £11 more but then they put a delivery charge onto that. My point being if you want to pay a little more to safeguard yourself then i would say this is the wise way to go as you then wont have to deal with ebuyer it will be the source you purchased the T.V from (obviously that is for a limited time...or so ive been told by Consumer Direct).
Now onto how i found the T.V when i opened the box.
Firstly i was'nt sure but i thought the seal had been opened but took a look inside to see if it was ok , after opening the box i found the base was broken so needless to say i didnt look into how the T.V was working. The protective packaging was not in a great condition either so i can only guess its been returned by somebody already and sent out the same way to me.....genuine error or just "who gives a damn attitude"(tvs come direct from supplier not 3rd party) ..who knows?
I have arranged a collection of the T.V no problem as i did not order this directly from F&H and have not placed an order for a replacement although i was tempted till i came across this site.I googled to find reviews rather than take them off the Brands Site as what site is going to say "Dont buy our product its rubbish"!!!!!!0 -
Some of the largest companies in the world brand and brand and brand. Its how they fullfill the span of products they need.
I guess at £233m turnover in 09, £40million in shares, someone decided they wanted to push out (Vida Capital are owners) .... but why not.
I am sure for every broken TV there must be countless working ones, there has to be, they have to make a profit at the end of the day... as their nett worth was declared at £37m in 09 they must be.
I have used Ebuyer a lot, always do especially for hP and compaq stuff.... BUT, I would be more concerned when companies like this start to shoot themselves in the foot.
Notice a lack of Sony MP3 players, yet bucket loads of F&H ones?
Lack of premium TV's, no Philips and so on?
But then walking around Currys lately I also thought there was a lack of brand choice.... lots of TV, but not many brands.
Maybe use Dabs.com?
If somethings cheap, it usually is.

I bought a 19" TV recordable combo. I had a problem getting the usb to recognize my HDSD card. It has to be FAT32 not NTFS. Same goes for an external USB hard drive, it must be FAT32 formatted. Also, if you change cards in the card reader, you will have to turn the TV on and off each time, so that the internal reader updates the info, which can take a few seconds to initiate. Apart from that, the TV is fine, the Picture OK and the sound acceptable, and yes, you have to have the DVD in the wrong way round to view it, and sometimes the aerial's digital signal takes a while to kick in at startup. If you want to print out the manual from the CD on a PC, I would only print the pages that are not obvious to normal day to day operation. Haven't got a problem with ebuyer not branding in their own name on the product, there are probably too many units out there with the original badge on it, any changes would cost too much money to replace the decal.0
