Are you sure your card was cloned? It seems a very small amount to steal. I wonder if you details weren't put in by accident e.g. a number similar to yours?

What they do is with any card fraud is put through a small amount usually between £2 and £5, as the sum is under the radar for being pulled up, (goes through automatically), then go on a spending spree as quick as possible, course with mine the £2 went through flying colours, but the statement doesnt tell you if any transactions have been declined.

Got to speak to the card company again.

    Happy Birthday Sugar Spun!

I really must get Father's day cards sorted - have done 1 - DD has made 1 just 2 more to go although she can make as it's for her dad!

Bit of a bargain in The Works today - was looking for some summer type stickers for challenge on Crafty Place and spotted a nest of 6 Winnie the Pooh gift boxes for £5.99 - got to the till they went through at £4.99 and one set of stickers at 29p instead of 99p.
The boxes are gorgeous pink with traditional pooh and piglet on and a lovely bit of ribbon that I can squirrel for something else :p

Mel that popup card is gorgeous - I want them penguins!
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p

mum2one - glad you discovered early on what had happened with the card. Some of my elderly relatives only discovered a year later that about £500 had been taken out of their account, a clerical error not a robbery. During the time it had happened one of them had been in hospital and everyone was in such a state that it wasn't noticed.

Are you sure your card was cloned? It seems a very small amount to steal. I wonder if you details weren't put in by accident e.g. a number similar to yours?

Apparently (according to what I read on other threads) these little purchases (always seem to be less than a fiver) are test purchases. Computer programmes run through possible card numbers and pins until they get a match  they do a test purchase then if it goes through follow it with a biggie. It appears they might never even have handled your card! At least that's my understanding of it. You need to be vigilant when checking statements. Petrol stations and restaurants are key places for actual shoulder surfing/cloning though, it would seem.

ah she knows that..! (caught up with thread now)

happy Birthday Sugarspun and hope yours was happy too PLMel
