Go to homepage and under Quick Links click on 'More offers from Dell' and you'll see this one:
From:
£299
Due to End 03/05/2006
InspironTM 1300 - LIST-N05135Intel® Celeron® M Processor 370 (1.50GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows® XP Home Edition
256MB 533MHz DDR SDRAM
40GB Hard Drive
14.1" Wide XGA screen
Integrated Direct AGP Graphics
Integrated 24xCD-RW/8xDVD Combo Drive
56K Data Fax Modem
90 Day Collect and Return Service
But the e-value code brings nothing up if you want to configure so may well be a phone only offer.

Roger, this was posted by Bubba on 31st (last Fri) which seems a pretty good deal but I was just wondering if this encompasses any or all the previously mentioned perks in this 39 page thread......maybe I should go back thru them and scribble some notes - it's such a lot of info to take in

Hi everyone,
I bought one of the 15.4" Inspirion 1300 Laptops with 512Ram after seeing it posted on MSE. I am not a techy but I would like to expand the memory to make it bigger,
1. Can I?
2. Where should I buy it from
3. How do I do it?
Is there anything else that I can add to this machine??
Many thanks

I agree that it's an enormous amount to take in, I'm looking for a laptop bargain and I find it quite confusing. Usually I buy Dell computers, but it seems to me that this laptop at Comet currently offers better value than Dell:

Crucial are not the cheapest for RAM, but come highly recommended, also their scanner can confirm which chips your PC needs if you're unsure
You just undo a couple of screws at the back, you won't have any problem putting new RAM in...Thanks to all who post constructively.

I think there are two memory slots on the 1300 and the standard offering from Dell for 512M was 2 x 256M cards, although there was an extra cost option for 1 x 512M. So the simple answer is yes you can upgrade your memory but you might have to remove one or both of your existing memory cards and insert a larger one. Dell, I think are offering up to 1G RAM but I'm not sure if this is the maximum addressable for this machine.
If you look back through this thread there are loads of suggested sources.
Your RAM is accessed in a compartment on the base of the unit. Earlier on in this thread someone posted the relevant Dell instructions. Alternatively go to your manual which is loaded on the 1300 and there should be a desktop icon to access it.0 -

But you paying almost double the money which isnt worth it if all you going to do is use it to browse the web casually. WIll be hard pressed to find a basic laptop for £276 if that offer still going.0 -

Just to add, I've followed the various Dell laptop threads for months now before I finally decided to go for it. I looked at loads of laptops, both online recommendations, and in PC World, Currys, Comet etc.
Ordered my Dell Inspiron 1300 using the Quidco cashback link, and the whole process was relatively simple. The laptop arrived promptly, and I am really pleased with it.
Build quality was well above what I expected for the price, and certainly has a more solid look and feel than the Acer laptops I looked at in Comet. The performance is great, and I'm actually using it more than my desktop PC at the moment - it's a pleasant change to be able to hear myself think without the noise of a PC in the background!
I used the MSE link to the cheap 512MB RAM upgrade, as well as the bargain PC World laptop case, so all in all, this site has saved me a packet!
Excellent work chaps! :T :beer:0
