    Thank you

Im on broadband ( e7even at the moment if they dont go bust with all recent problems ) through a BT line so this means ADSL

so Im looking for one like this, is that correct

An ADSL wireless modem such as this NETGEAR DG834GUK 54MBPS WIRELESS ADSL MODEM FIREWALL ROUTER (904351) for £59.98

This will obviously mean Ill just have to have a wireless mouse and keyboard as I need to use the wireless feature to the best advantage to get my moneys worth - Other half will be so pleased lol

This cheap labtop is getting a little expensive
(but the benefits will far outway the cost, and we really need to get up to date - well thats what Ill let other half anyway lol )

Thanks for your help much appreciated
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

    weaver,

    Presumably you are using broadband?
Your broadband will either be ADSL (BT and the like) or Cable (also known as DSL).

    HTH,

    Bri.

Cable is not DSL as in Digital Subscriber Line/loop. DSL comes in a few flavours but most common in the UK is ADSL (Asymmetric) In other words the rates for send and receive differ. ADSL uses the phone system to provide the physical loop to your home.
Cable is not the same at all. Cable companies provide their own network.

Just wondering, how easy would it be in a couple of years time to upgrade the processor on this laptop?

I've built plenty PCs before but not had any experience of laptops.

My understanding (no expert) is that it is basically impossible or at least cost-prohibitive to upgrade a laptop processor or graphics card. Adding memory is apparently not too difficult though.

That would do the job. I would however check that your existing PC has a network card that can connect into the wireless router (assuming you will still be using that). If it does not you can either buy a network card or buy a wireless USB adapter.

There is a number of deals on wireless routers at present (with wireless adapter) - see my other post

    weaver,

A wireless mouse and keyboard do not use Wi-Fi as the wireless protocol. These will come with a separate wireless receiver. So no real reason to go out of your way to go wireless for these items as it would not use the wireless router. ;)

just received my dell 1300 (£350.88) and I'm very impressed with the build quality. For such a low price, I was half expecting to receive something resembling the build quality of a Sinclair Spectrum.

Just order two more lap tops for my brother and sister. (BTW my current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite)

Just one word of caution, if you order as a small business you lose the automatic 7 day cooling-off period under DSR
    Is this true?

I received the laptop today (looks great!) but I would like to send it back and re-order with the 15.4" screen.

Also - under DSR, who is respopnsible for return postage?
