Ordered upgraded laptop via monkeyspanner route on Friday but am having a nightmare with customer services. I have been unable to locate my order on their web site using the internet receipt no. and didn't have an order no. until I phoned them this morning to check my order had gone through. The Indian lady said the order was not being processed (although I'd had the e-mail confirmation) and she'd phone me back at tea time. When I got a phone call back I was told I couldn't have what I'd ordered at the price I'd ordered it and would have to speak to sales. After being passed around 6 staff the last one pretended she couldn't hear me, shouted at me to ask if I was deaf and said she could not hear me and that if I didn't reply she'd hang up, which she did!

All I want is the laptop I ordered at the price I ordered it, £339.13 (I didn't upgrade the batttery).

Is there any customer services number that works?

Sorry to hear you are having a problem ordered mine (N03136 via business) on Thursday had a confirmation of shipment a.m. today.

I've been quite impressed with the way Dell are able to keep you informed all the way with how the order is progressing. After all the recent bad press I was a bit wary about ordering but took the chance and ordered N03136 (via Business )and can almost watch them assembling it. I do have a good imagination.

I ordered mine after you on Sat night 18 Mar -again via the 'Monkeyspanner' route - with a upgraded battery, larger screen and 512mb for £350.88.

I got my order confirmation by email this morning with an estimated delivery on 29 March.

    weaver,

    Presumably you are using broadband?
Your broadband will either be ADSL (BT and the like) or Cable (also known as DSL).

If your using ADSL, then your best bet is to get a wireless router with a built in ADSL modem. You then connect this between the phone line on the wall to your desktop computer. You won't need your existing ADSL modem anymore.

If your using Cable, then go for a wireless broadband router (no built in modem). This goes between your existing cable modem and your desktop computer.

You then simply configure the laptop to communicate wirelessly with the new wireless router and voila! You should also be able to share files with your desktop PC.

Assuming you are not using a Dial-up modem

You will need a wireless router to replace your existing cable or ADSL modem.

If you are using a BT line you will need an ADSL wireless router.

If you are using cable (Telewest/NTL) you will need a cable wireless router.

Both of these at PC World. Just enter the number in brackets on website search.

A cable modem such as this NETGEAR WGR614 54MBPS CABLE/ DSL WIRELESS ROUTER (951446) for £39.43 at PC World

    OR

An ADSL wireless modem such as this NETGEAR DG834GUK 54MBPS WIRELESS ADSL MODEM FIREWALL ROUTER (904351) for £59.98

It can get more involved if you are on AOL or Dial up so hopefully you are not.

Bought on Saturday(late), despatched today. Considering they build to order this would be hard to beat. Having not owned a laptop before I just hope its as good as it should be.
note. Must make sure I get my hands on it before Daughter to put AV/Firewall on before connects to net.
Why oh Why don't they come configured this way, not everyone knows its needed. It would stop most virusses dead before they infect the unwary.
