I take it you haven't seen the items or you would know that they weren't tat, funny how people talk about it being tat and then go every day or don't go and still decide its tat, nowt as queer as folk.

As for the first person in the queue being given a voucher in fact they are taken into the store before it opens and helped to shop for what they want. Can't believe that people spend time and energy reporting this, that and the next thing, be happy with your 15 items for heavens sake and stop yearning for more.

I was first through my local store today.and didnt get offered a thing. I thought this was only for the first day.

Have just rung M&S as was first person at my store today and they confirm this is NOT taking place. First person in queue not getting offered aup to £50 item for 1p.Dont know where posters are getting this from but M&S customer sertvices adamant on phone to me this is NOT taking place today or yesterday.

Our Manager was not present at our store today. Met him while queuing yesterday. But nothing special was offered to anyone first in the queue on either day.

EDIT further to this have just rang a few managers of stores where it is quoted on here as taking place and they have all confirmed to me that these were given in amounts of at least 3 special vouchers up to £50 item for 1p for each store taking place in Penny Bazaar to by handed by Manager to first person in queue each day and also if given any extra to grant at discretion. Our Manager was not there today. So phoned our store and queried this with them. Ticket was given out to someone but NOT first person in queue. Problem being I was quite clearly first person in q, there at 6.50 am ,seen by staff, cleaners, window cleaners, security had to walk past me to get in, had photo taken by one staff member as first person in the queue, was up against the door when doors were opened and actually welcomed and ushered into building by senior staff member who had an exchange with me about my being first and not wanting to burst in but wait to be invited to enter store.

Sorry to hear you didn't get a voucher, but you did much better than me and a lot of other people. I have to be at work before the stores open, so didn't even get a chance to get anything at all.

I cant believe some people are complaining about this promotion,
The papers reported digruntled shoppers but conviently left out that some people including myself very pleased with the items available. I always shop in M& S and love my few keepsakes and sweets, yum.

I feel the promotion, yes a clever marketing ploy, but also a great charity fundraiser was a great idea, with many people having a nice experience a few bargains but mainly raising funds and awareness to local charities, and yes I do give to charity boxes on the street, but because of the promotion I gave more.
    On Wednesday alone my local M & S raised over £730 :T.

I am sorry but what kind of people get up at 5 am to queue to spend 5p on tat
You can give to charity anytime you like you know - it doesn't have to be through an M & S promotion.
The kind of people who hang out on this thread. :D
Don't be so judgemental- just because it doesn't appeal to you.
I got a a few things this morning after getting to Chelmsford at 815. It was a nice atmosphere- I like the mug and I think the tie is ok- the passport holder, although not really a must have item:p is good. Anyway, later they were giving away cans and sweets in a bag. If people had the time to do it, it was a pleasant gesture to their customers and was raising money for a charity I wouldn't normally give to. Of course the most tax efficient way to give money is through a direct debit etc, but this is more fund raising than organised giving. No one is harmed by it I think, and the sum of human happiness slightly increased- so why try to make people feel bad about something good?

Not in my store. As I said I was the first person there today. Not only was the Manager himself not present, this didnt take place. I have not yet reported this officially until I have word back from my local store. I am awaiting their call.

I am not just some total chancer out for a bargain but am a regular shopper at this store going there most days. I buy all my clothes there - aside from one or 2 charity shop bargains - food, cards. gifts and have done so with M&S for 30 years plus. It is not a case of yearning for more but I do think it is fair of my to query why if I was undeniable first in the queue that I was not issued the same priviledges as first person in the queue at many other stores.(if not all)

I am seriously considering no longer shopping there as are my friends, family and flatmate but will await the outcome of this query.

Samba yes I am grateful extremely and will continue to be so. I managed to give more than I should probably be able to afford to a well deserving local charity and helped out my disabled mother who was unable to get to a store herself and got some things for a friend who has been in and out of hospital to cheer them up and some very lovely things they were too.The atmosphere was lovely, the queuing was fun and I met some lovely people. The staff at my local store are nice and friendly and professional and I will not have anyone think otherwise about them. They are very hardworking and always go above and beyond. On the whole I found this an extremely enjoyable experience and whatever happens with my query I am always going to have this experience and the memories.
