M&S Penny Bazaar Discussion

If the item was sold at a penny, it wouldn't be a genuine offer to suggest that it retailed for £13. I check promo ads for a large retailer and we would not allow them to promote products in a similar way.0

It would appear then that most of the goods have been "snapped" up by people who never go into M&S and will never go in again. They grabbed their 5 items (destined for sale on Ebay) and left straight away having paid just 5p.
It would have been better to have the range of goods behind the counter and offer one for 1p with each regular sale.
I feel sorry for the regular shoppers, i.e. the little old lady who shops there every week and has done for the past 50 years or so, who has no chance of getting anything.Mortgage and totally Debt Free as of December 2008.
boy does it feel good! Thanks MSE for all the tips and advice0 -

On the labels of my items it says "Don't ask the price, Its a penny"
No RRP anywhere on any of the goods or in any of the advertising that I have seen in Marks, as to Ebay then that is up to the seller to suggest what they think the RRP is.
From the leaflet...
Please feel free to make a voluntary donation to charity for these items. All items are subject to availability. Offer applies to selected items only. Items available may vary from actual images shown. As there is no charge for items in the Penny Bazaar, our normal refund policy does not apply. This does not affect your legal rights.
We were actually told this in the queue as well, that we weren't buying the items but donating to charity, they wouldn't be put through the till and that all money taken would be going to the relevant charity that the store had chosen.

This sort of promotion stinks of H&M, Gap, Next and other similar sales where you get the 'rabble' of people going out to buy stuff for the sake of it because it's cheap. It's not what I have come to associate M&S with at all. They didn't think it through very well. As somebody else has said, they should have had some items behind the tills for 1p that you could purchase when buying a regular product.0

Why do people who got items yesterday feel the need to go again for more? It's such limited stock and the queues show there's more people than items. I'd love to go tomorrow but it's a little disheartening to know people are being, what seems to me anyway, greedy.
Well said, I was just thinking the very same thingNice to save.0 -
If they had an offer where you got a 1p item with a purchase people would just return the full price item. What people don't seem to get is that M&S have designed this campaign for maximum publicity, which is working and maybe to get some new customers or encouraging old ones to return. Promotion is only available to someone who doesn't work 9-5.0
