1x tie (usually go for silk, but will be a good back up)

Saw a colleague's haul - the tie IS silk. If you check the label it states 100% Silk. Same for the scarf. The passport cover was well made in a nice, soft leather. All the items were marked with the M&S 125years logo, but for items of this quality they would easily have sold for their RRP.

As I posted yesterday I think the whole of M&S was on a steep learning curve not having done anything like this before. I can only speak for the store I am at but it was a completely different experience today. All the niggles of yesterday were ironed out and all the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves, perhaps aided by the queues being smaller.

I think it all got a bit over hyped in the run up to it and yesterday there was a fair amount of abuse being aimed at us in the front line. Today customers were a lot more chilled out and I had a lovely time chatting to people in the queue. Tomorrow should be even better. It was designed to be a bit of fun for both customers and staff, and today it was :)
  • I was there bright and early on my way to work and got these
    cuff links - scarf - tea towel - passport cover+ a tie.

A bargain and it was good to know that the money is going to charity.

With regards to the Chelmsford store comment, my mum was down there yesterday, and they gave her a £50 voucher as she was first in the queue ! She managed to get herself a nice dress (£49.50) for 1p !

She did mention that it was all very friendly there and no problems at all.

I can quite believe that the minority spoil it for the majority in many places though - shame really.

wow thats excellent - well done your mum. i love the dresses they have brought in for the 125th birthday. will hurry the kids along to school tomoro so i can get in to town. dont think i'l be first in queue.

I agree with PAULWF, it is a bit of fun. the staff were all dressed up in costumes, and it was a really nice atmosphere. what a shame some people have to make it nasty and abusive!

p.s. while in store i got my dine in for £10 (i used vouchers i got from a sky+ promotion - so got a lovely tea for the weekend FREE - what a lovely day):j

Why do people who got items yesterday feel the need to go again for more? It's such limited stock and the queues show there's more people than items. I'd love to go tomorrow but it's a little disheartening to know people are being, what seems to me anyway, greedy.

To the people getting annoyed by the poster claiming to have jumped the queue and bought a suit, ignore it. Only certain items were included in the promotion, and anything else would not go through as 1p. Furthermore, the relevant items were set up in a little section of their own, hence it being the penny bazaar.

Further to this Flickering, our M&S actually cordoned off the Penny Bazaar area and fully martialled it to the extent that you could not even select your own items.Anyone wanting to examine them was looked at. Which is a bit hard when they are on 2 tables unevenly distributed and you are trying to look at which one of the different jewellery items you want. Both of them did not have the full selection.. seemed to be split down the middle.

wolvesfan - it's probably not a good idea to slag your employer off on a public talkboard.
I agree particularly as an ex M&S employee myself. I know that they value staff who give good customer service and are polite and well mannered and not mocking of either the company nor it's customers who lets face it Wolves put wages in your pockets in a recession. I have examined the goods and would say that the cufflinks are of good quality, the scarf is actual SILK, the pants and socks cannot be described as low sellers especially not the mens black socks which we all know are M&S big selling lines - ie a very high percentage of people go to M&S for the socks/hosiery and underwear.

I'd be interested to know what dept you work for and for how long as you don't seem to know or understand your company and its products.

Its nice to know M&S employ these types of people. Perhaps you are working for the wrong employer!
Having worked for them in the past, I am actually shocked that this type of person seems to have slipped through the net. Recruitment is usually quite vigourous and intensive even for student part timers.High standards of customer care and calibre of staff were always paramount during my periods with M&S.

My friend reported this as fraudulent as seller is claiming a £13 RRP!

What's wrong with that? Silk scarves do cost £13. It was reported in the press that the RRP was £12.50.
