yes, you must tell the person on the other end that you are recording the call. having done that, recording is perfectly ok.
if i were doing it, i would also ask them to note this fact on my account. that way it will not come as a surprise to them when you use it later...
if you were really careful, you would note the time of the call, operator's name and then email back to the phoneco with a note of the conversation. that really would copper bottom the evidence!0 -
My husband recently left T-mobile, to get an I-phone. He was not to be disuaded and so was not going to be a customer that T-mobile could keep.
I made the call to get his PAC number, and as a T-mobile customer myself, (for approx 3 years now, on PAYG) as i wasn't going anywhere, they gave me 1,000 free texts with a 90 day expiry on them.
I like that kind of service. They didn't try to push for me to upgrade, were really nice about it, and gave me a freebie, which will continue my customer - certainly for the time being.
Nice going.Always on the look out for a bargain. :smileyhea Thanks if you've helped me bag one.0 -
Helped out a colleague at work. She was on a really crap tariff and her bills were regularly £15 over - around the £50 mark. Rang Orange and asked me to talk on her behalf - was offered 800 mins, 400 texts & unlimited landline with a free Samsung Jet for £20 on an 18 month contract. Talked them up to 800 texts and free unlimited web for the same price. Then moved onto the SE Satio and got the same deal for £25. She's very happy. Her brother phoned up as a new customer and got the same deal for £30.0

I am currently with Vodaphone on 12 month Anytime 75 minutes contract @ a rent of £20 per month. Contract is up & they have offered a SIM only deal ( I want to keep my phone and no.) of 300mins + unlimited texts of £12.77 + vat. Current usage circa 240 mins per month. Is this a good deal? Great articles, save loads. Love voucher deals.0

Make sure you get it in writing. They have an unfortunate policy (I mean habit...) of signing you up to something rather different than they promise over the phone.0

Phoned this morning to negotiate my contract... My contract expires in two weeks and i use way less than my current contract...
I barted my £27 (600min,unlimited texts, 250mg web) + £4.69 (8mb, unlimited broadband)... down to £14.49(down to 200mins, up to 500mb web) + £4.69 broadband)...and a free nokia 5800, which i will sell as i already have a perfectly good iphone 3g!
All in all i think it a success, considering i will keep my broadband add on for a fiver which has been there for 3 years since i took out a £35 contract!!!0 -
tried haggling with o2 last night. im currently on their online 25 plan which includes 200 minutes and 400 texts and it runs out in 3 weeks. told them i had been offered 300 mins and unlimited texts for £15 with vodaphone, which i have. they put me on hold and came back and said no, won't match it. i asked them for a counter offer, they said there wasn't one!, i must pick from there plans if im not happy with my current one! so i asked for PAC number to switch and it has been text to me in 6 hours. been with them 3 years, obviously not a valued customer! bootsaholic, tell your daughter to get her companies act together cos i'm off! :mad:0

I phoned O2 today to upgrade after 18 months on my plan. I was a customer of theirs for 4 years on various plans around the £30-35 mark.
I had done my research and told them a T-mobile customer walking in off the street could get
SE W995 / 700m / unltd txts / 18 months @ £27.
The retention team point blank refused to match this and the best they would do was 600m @ £35!
So now I am waiting for my PAC...
No doubt I am at the bottom of some kind of curve that depends on their monthly targets, daily targets, market share, and who knows what else.
It would be good to have a vote to see which networks have come up with customer retention deals that were better than those available to the general public.
Thanks for listening. Good luck bartering!

I''m on an 18 month contract with Orange £15 a month 100mins and 'unlimited' texts.
In july i got offered a scheduled upgrade but now i'm not sure if it renewed my contract or not. they didn't tell me it did but i'm sure its been over 18 months now, and i want to change as 100mins isn't enough but online, it says i can't upgrade or change my contract for at least another year.
do you think i'll have any chance in getting out of it considering they didn't ask whether i wanted to renew the contract they just carried it on for another 18 months?
also, my online account with Orange has an extra name who i've never heard of, I'm worried this random person who is linked to my account may have access to my personal information, do you think this will help my get a differnet contract?
I like being with orange but i'm a complete rookie when it comes to contracts and sales, and i'm a bit worried they may have seen me coming and taken advantage of my inexperience.0 -

I hope you are enjoying the SE W995, think this is what I will go for now.
My story, posted elsewhere on here, is basically that o2 changed my tariff, unbeknown to me. Only when I got a larger than usual bill did I notice. This happened for 3 months in a row.
I decided to email, as soon as I found out, rather than phone as I would then have a record of everything. Customer service emails eventually agreed that they (o2) had indeed changed my contract without my authority. Before they did I sent them a separate email telling them as they had broken the contract I would be leaving.
Despite the fact that you must email/write I was "requested" to contact the retention team by phone.
So I did.
They initially suggested that I would have to buy out my contract - not likely I suggested as they had screwed up. After failing to call me back, as they had promised, I phoned again and they gave me my PAC.
No effort to see if they could retain my business - at all!
I would have been happy to stay, if they had simply refunded the extra charges and said sorry and explained what had happened. Wasn't looking for anything extra, no new phone, no reduced tariff.
However because of o2's lack of interest I can now enter a 12 month contract (less than the 18 months left on my original 24 month one) with another company and pay less each month for more minutes and texts than I had before.
I hate poor service and I know it happens in many companies but to lose business without making any effort at all to keep it, strikes me as very shoddy indeed.
I have enjoyed the "sorry you are leaving" emails from them, none have ever asked why.:cool:We all evolve - get on with it0
