  • I seem to have got a fantastic renewal contract... phoned orange to say I wanted to cancel my contract and go to PAYG as it was coming to an end in a month – I was on the following contract:

    · £30-35 inc. vat per month
    · 600 anytime any network minutes (which I don’t use most of)
    · Unlimited texts (which I use about 50)
    · Magic Numbers (free calls to chosen orange mobile numbers, 3000 mins a month)
    · 18 month contract (about to come to an end)

    I have just blagged:

    · £9.76 inc. vat per month
    · 18 month contract
    · 400 anytime any network minutes per month
    · 550 texts per month
    · Free unlimited land line calls at any time
    · Keep all existing magic numbers, and continue to earn an extra one every 6 months (so still get free calls to my orange mobile friends/family)
    · Free Nokia 6303 (Selling on ebay for about £60-70)

I’ll be selling the Nokia straight away as still have a working phone from before, so getting £60-70 back from it – so the total for the 18 months (minus any additional 08 calls or WAP usage etc) would effectively be about £110, which equates to about £6.15 a month!

I'll be phoning them today or tomorrow to confirm it again, and record that call, as per the above message in case they change it.
Is it legal to record their calls and use it as proof? Won't I have to tell them specifically beforehand like they do to us?

Hi all, I had a fantastic result from orange. I was on a £35 contract and rang them to say that I wanted to cancel the contract and get a pay as you go sim card, this really worked I ended up with a brand new nokia touch screen with free music download, the same minutes and texts as the £35 contract all for £10 a month. Yiphee

And when I checked my bill it was correct.
  • I rang up Orange yesterday and was totally amazed by the lack of effort they made to retain me.

I mentioned that I quite fancied a SE Satio and was looking for a deal in line with my current one whereby I get unlimited texts and 1000mins per month and pay just over £30 p/m they offered me the phone for £20 and my line rental would increase to £35 when I said I had seen better offers elsewhere and asked for my PAC code they just did that and made no further offers which I was a bit surprised by.

Has anyone got any suggestions where I go from here, Im not too keen to move networks but going by yesterdays call it doesnt seem like I will get much of a deal from Orange.

call back and first cancel your disconnect as once you have the disconnect in place you wont get a good deal. hang up and then call back later and go through to diconnect team who are the retention team and ask for a better offer. a good time is in the evening as hopefully they have had a lot of disconnects for the day and dont have much space for more disconnects
  • Had been with Orange for 12-13 years in normal tariffs, ending on a Raccoon 35. Got made redundant and when contract was up decided I couldn't afford it any more, so looked at Tesco pay as you go - you pay £10 and they pay £10 - seemed good deal for the limited use. Phoned Orange and told them contract was up so I'm leaving as I can't afford to renew. Give Orange their due, and I have had lots of problems with them before, that guy jumped through hoops top keep me with Orange. Anyway after 40 minutes on the phone I ended up with Almost a Raccoon 35, but with about 100 less texts on contract for £8 per month. So keep saying No No No to all their suggestions until you get to the point where Orange are about to walk away and you'll get a deal worth having. If I didn't need the BT line for Broadband, I'd get rid of it and then have all phone calls for £8 per month. DON'T GIVE UP!!
  • I'm pretty good at haggling for deals and I got absolutely nowhere with 3. My contract was due for renewal in July so I phoned in June to see what they could do for me. I got the blurb about being a valued customer (having been with them since they started) and then got offered deals that I could have picked up for myself on the internet.

I got my PAC code and then the calls started to try and retain me. Every person that I spoke to would only offer me deals that I could get for myself and crappy phones. Even when I told them about deals I could get elsewhere they wouldn't offer me anything decent. Needless to say, I left.

I went to mobiles.co.uk and got a Nokia 5800 Express Music on the Orange Dolphin 30 with a £10 a month discount and 14 months half price by redemption. Even if I don't claim the cashback it's a better deal than anything 3 offered.

I'm happy with Orange and their customer services so far and glad that I moved from 3. I have two other contracts with 3 for my husband and son and I doubt if I'll be renewing those next June!

Thanks for the advice, would it not show up on my record that I have applied to disconnect once and cancelled? and therefore potentially diminish my bargaining power.

I must say I am surprised at how easily they gave me my PAC code and that they have made no attempt since to keep my custom

should not as I have done it before and never had a problem. a lot of the time even wen u tell orange not to cancel they still place a disconnect on ur account so u can always say u never asked for the disconnect

I am about to move to London, so I needed a phone with plenty of minutes, as the place I am hoping to move to, does not have a landphone, I haven't used one for about two years though.

I phoned up to cancel my contract on 3 as it finishes this month, I had a look at a deal which I liked on Omio

    Blackberry Curve 8520 (Vodafone)
    600 Cross Network Minutes
    Unlimited Texts
    24 months
    £20 per month

The first time, a day before, they said there was no better deals, the second time round I was offered this.

    Nokia E71 (3)
    500 X-Network Minutes
    Unlimited Texts
    Unlimited Internet
    18 Months
    £25 per month

Seeing as I would pay less for that contract, and I could look around for a better deal the next time, I decided to opt for that one.

However, looking at this site and at Omio again, I see there is the same deal and price plan, plus £20 auto cashback and a gift, a better gift and £10 cashback, or just go for £30 cashback.

I have accepted their offer today, about an hour ago, though my previous contract has not yet finished, can I phone up 3 to speak to them and stop the next contract from starting?

Edit: I also forgot the cashback I can make from the TopCashback website too.

I rang back yesterday and got offered 1200 mins and unlimited texts plus free web upto 500mb and a free LG505 for £25 per month does this seem like a good deal?

I still would prefer a HTC Hero or even a Samsung Jet but they said that they couldnt do them at that price. I did mention that I would be happy with less minutes as I think 700-800 would me more suited to my needs but they said there system wouldnt allow them to reduce their minutes.

Please note: i have not withdrawn my request to leave yet though, would that make a difference?
