Have a go!!0 -
I have been a very loyal virgin customer for about 5 years and have both a contract and have a contract and a PAYG phone with them at approx £60 a month. My contract is now needing renewing and they are overpriced by approx £6 a month over 18 months (£108) compared to t-mobile, orange and 3. I called them and they were un-budgeable on tariff costs offering me a measly voucher for £50. This was infact their "saves" department so they didnt exactly do a great job  . On my 3rd phone call to them about this I was eventually offered a bluetooth headset as well but as i have one its not appealing. I asked if i could swap that for speakers but again no option, hands are tied, blah de blah. Ultimately I am now considering Orange dolphin 35 reduced to 30 online complete with veryyy nice speaker system worth 59.99 free or using mobiles.co.uk and getting a proper freebie (tv, wii etc). Either way Virgin just lost my business over £6 a month. Very disappointing indeed. Happy haggling all, just dont hold your breath with Virgin!0

Just had a superb result with O2. I've been a customer of theirs for nearly 9 years, right back when they were still BTCellnet, so I had some good leverage.
I was on the O2 400 contract, which gave me 400 minutes and 100 texts for £30/month, so I used the 3 Mix-and-Match 500 as the nearest comparator which costs £18/month. Had I moved to 3, I would also have bought their Internet Max add-on, which gives unlimited data for £5/month, for a grand total of £23/month.
So I called O2 and just immediately asked for a PAC code. Of course, they put me through to retentions, who asked what deal I was looking at elsewhere and why I felt it suited my usage better. I described the 3 deal to the chap on the phone, and said that I typically underused my minutes but exceeded my text allowance, and the ability to interchange these on the 3 deal was appealing. I've also been travelling a lot more with work lately, so have been stung a bit on some international call costs and mentioned this too.
Anyway, without too much effort on my part, I was offered a new deal of 600 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited data usage and cheap international roaming calls all for £20 month. They're sending me a new phone too, a Nokia 6500 (I got a Samsung last time, and have pretty much hated it ever since - I'm going back to Nokias forever!).
Well done O2 - customer retained!0 -
After years of shuffling between networks making mistakes on the way, one of which where I cancelled a Vodafone Blackberry retention deal that included 200mins 200 texts and Stop the Clock for £19.99 p/month (Fool) This is where I'm at, don't think I'll do much better.
Me- £15 p/m sim only for 500 minutes/300 text/unlimited o2 to o2 with £180 credit on my account (No handset)
Wife-300+300 on £10 p/m VirginMedia sim only.
Calls from home using Skype @ £2.24 incl. VAT p/month for 10000 landline minutes.
Got me one of these http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=135658
£27.24 p/month total!:T0 -
I thought I'd have a go at this last night. I'm on Orange and was in the last 3 months of my contract. I was on their dolphin 35 (old deal - 500 mins x-network with unlimited texts). I've been with Orange for over 5 years and been spending loads with them. I went into one of their shops recently and the phone I wanted to upgrade to would've cost me £20 extra.
I used Martin's tips on the phone last night and managed to get 400 mins x-network and unlimited texts for £20 pm instead of the £35 i was paying before an I got my choice of upgrade for free.:j

Cheers after following your advice I shoped around and found TMobile offering 700 mins, unlimited texts and free handset for £30, so rang Orange my current provider armed with this information the guy was really helpfull and I ended up with 600mins, Unlimited texts and a free Samsung U900 phone for £25 and a 15% loyalty discount on top. Oh and I still keep my free Broadband!!
Cheers Paul:T0 -
I just phoned up as my o2 contract was in its last month, i "pretended" i wanted to give notice to cancel my £30 per month contract, saying i had found a similar better deal with T-mobile costing just £25.
The guy on the phone then went on to offer me a free Sony Ericsson W760 (latest walkman phone with built in sat nav), 600 mins, 1000 texts, free unlimited web browsing (which i was previously paying an extra £7.50 a month for), all for just £20 a month! Well ... another year, another barter with O2!
I was on O2 500 (500 xnet mins + 200 SMS) for £30 (discounted from £35)
Now been offered 800 xnet mins + 500 SMS for £25 with a free Nokia N78 (just out) and on eBay for about £200.
Any good?
Thanks.0 -
I was not using all my minutes on a Racoon 25 promotional rate for £25 per month and wanted to reduce my monthly cost. The first dept, of course, couldn't do anything for me on a £15 tariff so went through to Retentions. I now have 300 x net and landline minutes and 100 text for £15 month plus a shiny red Sony Ericsson 910i. As you can tell, I don't use mine much!Ciggie free 2am 21/09/06. Me and DH both have contracts for £35. This was renewed in January. Things are a bit tight at the moment (as for everyone I know)so we are looking to see if we can reduce our monthly contract payments. Has anyone done this before cos I don't know if it's possible whilst in contract.
Any advice much appreciated
