Yes - but it's likely to cost you a small mortgage!

Been look for a 'solution' that would allow use in France but not cost the earth. Can't seem to find a suitable solution for Data access outside the UK. Everything appears to cost £3 per Mb, or are like Vodafone's new offering which is £9.99 (depending on the zone) per 25Mb per 24hrs - which for picking up mail or similar occasionaly is overkill.

Take a look at a Bouygues Telecom PrePaid SIM. If that doesn't work, mobile broadband

how am i gonna use this in the AA1 if i cant use vista or ubuntu to even unlock it?

any ubuntu users out there unlocked theres and if so how?

Ubuntu? Sorry, that's not a proper operating system and you'll certainly not get an .exe file to load. That's the whole world of computing essentially that'll not work.

If you want to execute the file do it on a PC or try your local library and use their machine.

Even if you manage to flash the dongle not all dongles work well in Ubuntu. As I said it's not a real operating system. Get XP off eBay or borrow a recent retail copy which should allow you to use it for 30 days.

I actually got the 3 Connect software running within XP under VirtualBox on my Mac and it was talking to the dongle with no problem - as VirtualBox can be configured to give the guest OS direct access to specific USB devices. I didn't try the unlock though. It is entirely feasible therefore that the same could be done on an Ubuntu host running an XP guest.

    Normal post.

Thanks because it actually says in the small print on the website that they deliver it and that if you are not home when it is delivered they can charge you for redelivery so then I became concerned.

Not true. There are at least two ways of doing this on Ubuntu. You can use Wine, which allows you to run windows exe files, or you can use a VM.

If by proper you mean doesn't run all microsoft windows software then you may be right (although I wouldn't choose that term). Ubuntu is a fully fledged and extremely secure open source operating system. By your definition Mac OSX isn't a 'proper' operating system either. Perhaps I'm mistaking a poor choice of vocabulary for a lack of IT knowledge.

For the unlocking you could use a virtualbox installation (of XP) under Ubuntu - but get the 'full' version from Sun's website and not the opensource edition in the repositories if you need access to USB.

I have a 3 USB modem and it works fine under Ubuntu - I didn't bother unlocking it as I couldn't get a better deal than the one I have with Three. Perhaps I'll get a spare to play with :)
