If you had read through the thread as you claim, you would have noted that I knew about the lack of security, so deliberately used a card that hadn't been used before in order to test the integrity of the payment page.

What an amazing coincidence! A card that had been in my possession for close to a year, but had never been used, suddenly get fraudulent transactions taking place on the very same day that it was used on the unsecured website for the dongle.

Maybe you think that you are being smart in posting your conjecture. But if you had even half the intelligence that you thought that you had, you would realise that I am highlighting the information in the case that others had used their Debit cards on the website.

As to your nonsense about obtaining a prepaid single use card in order to purchase a mobile dongle..... do you actually have any friends? If you did they would have surely advised you against writing such embarrassing nonsense.

Most, as I did would just order the item and then order a new card and number.
My main bank cards remain unaffected...because I chose not to use any of them on such a website. Poorly constructed and unsafe.

Thanks for your input, but it's mostly useless for those who already have fraudulent transactions on their accounts.

Just so that you know, it's Protx, not Protox and has long since been renamed to SagePay. But of course, you knew that.

It appears to me you are just drumming up drama because you've had suspicious transactions on your bank account.

I see only a handful of people posting on this thread who have had fraudulent transactions on their accounts. Out of the thousands who have ordered via this website, it is highly probable that they could be a coincidnence but if you had half as much intelligence as you think you have im sure you would know about mathematics and probability.

Not sure what your babling on about not having any friends and pre-paid cards as they of course are very related to one an other aren't they?, I think someone needs to go back to school and learn about apples and oranges. Yes it is embarassing nonsense to have a bank account with Cahoot who let you have a debit card for use online which is single use to protect your security, course being as childish as you are I doubt your old enough to be able to get one. Pre-Paid cards are a very viable method for use online. Cahoot, IVOBank and Neteller all offer these types of one use cards free of charge to anybody. So excuse me if my security conciousness is embarrasing nonsense!.

You are not highlighting anything, you are trolling. Pure and simple, you have already told people that you suspected the site was unsecure as you have had fraudulent transactions on your account yet you have brought it up several times since!.

Now excuse me while I get back on topic and help people who are asking legitimate questions in this thread because I won't be answering you again.

    1. It depends what you want it for, if you want to use it on odd days in the month then O2 is the best deal as you can pay £2 for any individual full day you want to use it. You get a 500MB download allowance for your £2 which is enough for most people. Alternatively with Vodafone you can pay £15 for 1GB of data and this doesn't expire so you can use it when you want. With three it's £10/month for 1GB this is good value if you are using this as your main broadband and will use it consistantly every month.

    2. These sim cards are on Ebay and are meant for the IPhone but work in the dongles, they include unlimited browsing for 12 months. Just look for Iphone SIM on ebay. However o2 have been cracking down on people using these sims in dongles rather than an IPhone and if they catch you they will remove the add on so buying the SIM might turn out to be a waste of money.

    3. For the 3 modem there is a link posted earlier in this thread which allows you to flash the dongle in order to unlock it for free. For the O2 dongle it may already come unlocked, if it doesn't then there will be 'paid' services that will unlock this dongle for you.

For reference, the Vodafone SIMs are available on ebay should you want to use vodafone in an unlocked dongle, you will need to search for Vodafone broadband SIM or 3G internet SIM. A standard PAYG sim would not be suitable.

I'd like to know more about this £5 per month with 3. i already have a dongle, and already use it. But its not clear what the requirements for using it actually are.

The £5 per month add on is meant for handsets, this gives you unlimited free web browsing on your phone for £5 per month. There is supposed to be a 1Gb fair use policy but they dont seem to enforce it. You can put the SIM card in a dongle and use this same allowance for mobile internet. Though technically you aren't supposed to and it is unclear what happens if you get caught, though if its PAYG its unlikely they could 'back' bill you.

Anyone looking for occassional light usage may want to consider using a Virgin Mobile Pay as you go SIM.

This works great in my unlocked USB dongle (using the instructions in this thread) and Virgin only charge £0.30 per day for up to 25MB of usage. I know that 25MB isn't much but it's enough for me to check my email and a few web pages occassionally. Speed is good as well as long as you're in a 3G reception area.

Do you get a warning before you go over the 25MB or does it just automatically charge you for continued usage?. If you do get a warning then this is definately the best deal for people who just ocassionally want to check email and news/weather updates.

    Hi there,
Can you or anyone else who has received it in the post tell me how it was packaged?
I am redirecting mail and if it is more than 25mm thick and 100gm. I might not get it.
    Thanks for your help.

The box itself It's around 30mm thick and about the size of a CD case. Mine came in a Jiffy bag which is around A4 size. It says on the back of the box the weight of the dongle is 50g but is probably nearer 100 with packaging, booklets, etc.

From your first post re "single use pre-paid cards" I was about to ask you if it was a Cahoot debit that you had used. Obviously it was.

Did you have any problems ? I only ask because I tried yesterday with my Cahoot webcard and it was "refused" by MicroP twice. Well technically 3 times thinking about it

On "viewing" the failure window it said something about the "you already validated this order."
I tried twice using the original registration that was in my name.
Then I re-registered on the site in my partner's name (same address but different email etc.) and got exactly the same.

I was just about to call Micro P to see what the score was.

Did you fill in the details manually or use the "auto-fill" function ?
I did manual on each occasion only trying the auto option later where for some reason it couldn't detect or analyse the MicroP page properly in order to complete the operation which I thought was odd !

I didn't notice any problems no, I filled all the details in manually from the webcard and it accepted payment on the first attempt. What did you set the limit on the card to?. I set mine to £5 as often companies can take a few pence more than the stated price when they do the authorisation.

I find the auto-fill rarely works for me on most sites. I think its down to the way they are laid out. A lot of sites ask for the address on a different page to the card number, expiry and cvv2 etc.

Right...well I don't have a handset so will have to think about the £5 option.
