I think if I bought a PC (and I include Macs in that) because of the way it looked then I would deserve to be sold any old flashy rubbish.

littleowl said they'd bougth their first imac 18 months ago then later stated macs work better and longer than any PCs they'd had.

I assumed since it was their first imac that they must be speaking from personal experience otherwise they'd just be making it up from rumours to that effect.

My experience is that I have an 8yr old pc nearly 9yr old running linux thats very fast and brilliant for browsing the net and word processing. Got it for free too.

I never buy the ugly cases. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so they say and theres more choice with PC's.

Windows has its place, and a large place it is too, I'm secretly hoping windows 7 is going to be good, I like games and vista is pants and xp just dont cut it anymore.

Mea Culpa! I cannot speak from personal experience about the longevity of Macs -only anecdotal evidence - and that seems to suggest that Macs do last longer - and command a higher price at a good age than PCs.

I don't want to enter into a PC versus Mac war but it was a revelation to me how smooth and simple both the hardware and the software are on a Mac. I seem to have been left with a lot of time on my hands previously taken up with ministering to endless Windows updates, antivirus updates and scans and defragging. On top of that programmes seem to blend seemlessly and there are far fewer issues with updating drivers etc.

It just seems to me that Macs have a build quality far superior to any PC I have owned, that they 'just work', and even look good too!

Thats the propaganda (that they last longer).

Mate i'm glad you've found something that good for you. Yours was a software issue. I have found the same putting linux on a pc.

If I originally pay 400 for a laptop I dont expect it to sell for much second hand. From my personal point of view owning a mac is not money saving. I wouldn't mind owning one but a little voice at the back of my head doesn't see the point.

Now if they dropped their prices...

On the other hand, of course, buying a high quality product which lasts far longer than a low quality one - that is money saving, isn't it? And then, if one can sell it at a good price rather than throw it away - that is also money saving, isn't it?

Incidentally, as a female, I don't think 'mate' is appropriate.:D

and we all know windows can be awful to use, but it does have it's uses.. so boring people can do their boring spreadsheets and boring charts... heh

At least a fuggly Acer is less likely to be stolen :p The burgler doesn't even have to worry about disconnecting the power supple on a Mac book air!

I would love a white Mac book though ^.^ . Customer service is a shambles in the PC industry compared to that of Apples - as far as I'm concerned anyway, and I bet 98% of the time with PC owners customer service is not up to they're expectations *cough* HP.

My 4 year old Ei System from PC world is still going strong and it was the cheapest computer there at the time. Yet I've had a HP pavilion laptop die on me 3 times and the family pc (Philips) blew it's HDD and graphics. I can definitely say you don't pay for what you get in a PC.

    Thank you my dear man.

Perhaps I forgot to mention that one of my PCs was seven years old before it died. That does not affect my joy having switched to a Mac
Not propaganda I don't think - merely experience.

But - hey ho - each to his - or her - own.
