Hiya anyone know of any places who check essays for a charge of course?
I have a couple of essays for uni (first year) and would really like some help with them eg are they ok etc
Anyone used a service like this please?
I have tried tutors etc but they only look at the plan and intro so not much help with finished essay.

Hand them in, get your grade and learn from that and the tutor's feedback. Get a fellow student to read them over if you must but what you want to do smacks of cheating.0

Getting your essays officially checked generally is considered cheating. However most universities have people, usually PHd students who will support you in giving advice on how to write an essay.
Get a family member to read it, they won't be able to correct factual errors but will be able to tell you if they generally make sense (grammar, spelling, half sentences where you got distracted and forgot to finish it,...).0 -
I agree.
Tutors won't check the final essay as that would be helping you achieve a higher grade than you may have otherwise i.e. cheating!
What are you actually wanting someone to do for you?
I've asked a friend to do a spell/gramar check for me a few times and she has counted the references to check they are all there at the same time, but I've never asked her to check the actual essay as such.
As ONW says, get some feedback and take it from there. In my experience, tutors will be happy to go over the feedback with you and discuss ways you can improve.
Reflexivity is one of the best skills we can have imo.0 -
Hi
I've never heard of such a service and am unaware of any friends that used it. I would ask my family or friends to check essays over for me, but in general especially in first year when the weighting of such essays towards final degree classification is minimal, I mostly worked on the feedback given at the end of the essay.
In my second and third year, the lecturers who set the essay gave more guidelines on what they expected - word count, number of references, reference style, formatting etc but this information was not freely available in first year.
I agree with the others that part of the learning process is learning from your feedback to improve your work

Ask your family not your friends as if you give it to uni friends you run the risk of them plagerising your work. And you being up in front of the uni on a charge and kicked of your course:mad: Easiest way to get an essay checked is either go to your personal tutor if you don't get on with the tutor going the module. Or book a tutorial with the tutor running the module. Yes they will tell you how to improve your grade if you ask the right q's after they have given you feedback on what they think needs improving, as I almost got an essay from a 2.1 to a 1st by asking the right questons:rolleyes:0 -
That feeling of 'not being sure whether they are ok or not' never goes away I'm afraid. You get more confident, but still when you hand them in there's always going to be the doubt of "Did I undestand the question? Have I emphasised various bits enough? Too much waffle? Enough references?" etc etc. Throw in variances between tutors and it gets even more unsettling...
1st Year is your chance to make mistakes and find your way without having any real impact on your final marks. Be brave, trust your skills and learn from any mistakes, good luck!0 -

How did you improve a grade after the feedback?
There should only be one chance per essay, as long as it passes...
Some nice friends you must have too...0 -

Most universities the first year is just pass/fail so you don't need to worry too much about the grade. Just learn how to reference properly! It really frustrates me, coming to the end of my 4 year course that some people on mine still don't do it properly but still get 2:1's. My department is a bit of a joke.0

You're opening up a huge can of worms if you do that. Having it proof-read professionally is possibly OK, but only possibly, but if you use their amendments it's probably going to be classed as plagiarism. The standard punishment for plagiarism is expulsion and it's really not worth it.
If you use a professional service you're really asking to be expelled.Build a man a fire and he will be warm for a day.
