you might be a bit nicer now but theres no need for this 'are sure u are at uni' That is a big no, no in a debate as it is personal and therefore rude as one should keep personal things out of it, which I haven't started on here, I just use my right to defend myself. And this forum anit school so I shall not be taking your advice as when it comes to essay time thats when it counts not on the forums

Urm... I would re-read your posts if I were you.

    To throw my tuppence in...

Asking tutors questions is fine, in fact I encourage it. Getting them to check drafts of essays is wrong, or getting them to check any piece of assessed work (apart from dissertations) is wrong.
why when everyone has the oppurtunities to do this .

My tutors happily looked at our drafts and gave suggestions(not what to write) but to advice on if we were referencing properly and were on the right track .

I dont see it wrong my tutor has been telling us for weeks if people want to come and see her about essays they can .. if people choose not to thats not my fault

Im not agreeing with either the annoying customer or ONW on this ludicrous debate, but im just stating my point of view:

The people on this forum really have it in for people who cant spell dont they?!! I have to say I think its down right cheeky for some people to question someones ability to be in university just because of their grammer. Yes fair enough good spelling makes it easier to understand one another, but some people on here just seem like they're waiting to pounce on the smallest spelling mistake!
Thank god im not dislexic otherwise there would be a danger that people would question my views and disregard them....because i hadnt ensured my views were put across gramatically and spelt correctly.

That may be how it works at your university, but at mine no tutor should effectively mark your work before it has been handed in. They are more than happy to check a reference or two but in that case you would copy and paste the section and add on the full reference below it. There is no need for them to look over the entire text and check your referencing.

They will also answer factual questions, or help you find sources if you're really stuck, but the work that is handed in has to be your own.

I would re read the whole topic b4 making comments like that then u will see I clearly didn't start it. But since this is very tedious with certain people lets just drop it yeah?

It doesn't really matter who started it or didn't start it. You have been just as guilty of throwing around personal remarks than anyone else.

Christ on a stick, what was that all about?

Tutors at my university will provide guidance and feedback on formative essays (i.e. ones that don't count towards your score) but won't on summative essays (i.e. ones that do count towards your score). It's not cheating to ask and most tutors are more than happy to give you a nudge in the right direction.

What the OP appeared to be asking for was more than a proof-read and a nudge in the right direction. She was asking for advice on the content of the essay. That's a huge no-no in any respected university, the content has to be your own even if you need assistance on grammar and syntax (e.g. because of dyslexia).

As for attacks on the annoyed customer's grammar and syntax, if the argument was cogent and coherent I think it would be unfair to criticise. However the content of her posts makes me wonder, too, as to the level of her education.

To answer her question, though: you are paying for TUITION at University, not spoon-feeding. They'll teach you what you need to know but won't tell you what to put in an essay. If you're at University you should be intelligent enough to formulate a coherent argument and if you're not that's not the University's fault.

sorry has to be done. Someone still hasn't answered my Q so the only thing I can conclude is that they are a brownoser, (u know who I'm talking about here) a bully since they haven't put a single decent comment on here and are just frankly rude and stalked me on another board whilst brownosing his mate looking for an opportuinity to strike. And never answer a Q which he can't make personal as he knos he'll be caught out. DO us a favoour stop being immature and grow up

    That's so daft it's laughable!

And a little bit of research would tell you you're way off the mark.

Come on, a HE student should know to check before they type! Or do tutors do your research for you as well?

Student Support should be able to help with that type of thing (going through essay structure/plan, proof-reading, etc., if needed because of your dyspraxia). If you haven't already, it may be worth thinking about claiming on your DSA for funding for time going over planning, essays etc. with an appropriate advisor.

Powerpoint is a good idea. You could also consider trying mind mapping software for planning (I find it useless, but lots of people say it helps).

Whilst dyslexia is obviously a whole different situation, I really don't understand why it's now considered normal for someone to be at university with such an appalling grasp of the English language. I know that it can happen nowadays but it really doesn't make it right!

Some of the language used on here would shame a bright twelve year old!
