ALL 1st Central customers might like to visit the AskMID website and check if vehicles they own are actually on the database/insured.

It's free to check your own vehicle.

If your vehicle is not on the database and you think it should be, you're entitled to start asking 1st Central (and Tom) some very pointed questions.

    Interesting

I've just done that and my car isn't.

I rang the customer service line and quoted my policy number and asked if I was insured as Askmid said I wasn't. The girl then quoted my previous car registration back at me.

The one that was written off in January :), ok so she may have had to read down a page to get to the new one.

I then gave her my new registration and she told me I had aquired it on 29th of Jan which was correct so it was recorded somewhere. She then had to go and ask somebody something for about 5 mins and then came back and said there had been a mistake and they hadn't put my car on the database when I transferred insurance over and they would do it now. It takes about 7 days to update apparently.

I will check again in a weeks time.

    Thanks for the advice:beer:.

I found this thread when looking to find out when my renewal notice would be sent out - most companies whould have sent it by now.

But after reading the horror stories on here, I think I will only need it for a proof of NCB

I'm a good driver with 13 years NCB so am unlikely to need to report an accident that is my fault (though 3 have been caused by other drivers during my time, all 3 times I was treated well by my own insurers in pursuing the claims)

They were about £20 cheaper than anywhere else and I got all my documents with no issues. So glad I didn't have to make a claim. And I will be changing my car soo, so I don't want to get ripped off or have issues with getting it covered

In the interests of balance, I emailed about when my renewal would be sent and they replied within 90 minutes.

But after reading all this, I think I am going to go elsewhere - especially as I am "upgrading" my car soon

A lot of Insurers devote more staff to answering quotes and renewals as it obviously generates money for them. The sign of a good Insurers is one that ensures they answers claims and customer service queries just as quickly.

Why not try ringing their claims phone number or customer services to see how quick they are

listen to these for excuses then. sorry f my english is a bit poor
i started my policy with 1st central november last year, 20th jan 2010 i had a crash which was my fault, my car was a rite off. because i had no recovery the police arranged it for me and gave me an address of were it will be going.
when i got home i contacted 1st central to make them aware of tha accident and they asked were my car was kept. 2 days later i contacted the depot were my car had gone, so i could go and collect my belongings, they told me my insurance had bin and collected it tha day before
i then contacted 1st central and asked them were my car had gone, and they decided to tell me they had took it 270 miles away from my home and was in a scrap yard. maybe i done something wrong or wether they were ment to contact me to tell me they were collecting my car like.

so anyway i waited 3 weeks and never had one phone call from them. i started to ring the claims department, and was waiting for on average 20 mins till i got intouch with someone, once i did i kept gettin told someone would ring me bk and that they could tell me nothing at that time. no one would ring back. or they would say theyre puttin me through to somebody and hang up the fne. i kept going round in circles lyk this for about 2 months.

after 3 months i recieved a phone call from tha fella who makes me an offer for me car, asking were it was :S i told them 1st central had took it. the next day he rang again sayin it was a ryt of, and valued it at 2800 which i was happy with. he said he would give 1st central the report and they would contact me. 2 weeks later. nothing!

i decided to ring up again, and yes! i got through to someone an told them i had my car valued and so on. he read the notes and said yes, i need to send logbooks and mot in 1st before they could send the cheque out, as soon as they recieve that they said i would recieve my cheque within 2 weeks.

i waited for 3 weeks and nothing. i rang up again and asked what was goin on and the fella said they hadnt of recieved them, i had sent them recorded delivery and they were delivered to them 2 das after i had sent them 3 weeks ago. he said he would find out and ring me back, which you can imagine 2 days later. he never.

i rang back up and and a woman read my notes and said they had my logbooks and mot an there is a problem coz my MOT was ran out at time of accident. i photocopyed them before i sent them, had a look and MOT didnt run out till JUNE 2010, i had accident on 20 JAN 2010 :S :S so how do you work that out. i told her that and she put me on hold. she then come back and said ok all they need to do now is contact the dvla to confirm i had my license on the date of accident as i was not able to send it in as i got banned in court 7 days after accident for totting up. so i left it a day and rang back up and said she has to find out if my insurance was valid because i commited the offence 2 months before tha accident. how do you work that out because it doesnt matter i didnt get banned till after my crash. so that is still going an she is also saying now my date of birth is differant to the one on the policy. when on my policy letters my date of birth is correct.

so at this moment she is sayin my date of birth is wrong, when it isnt on my policy letter and when that is sorted whether they can pay me out because i commited the offence before the accident when i never got banned tll after the accident aswell :S:S. really frustrating :mad::mad: it has not been 7 months and are still trying to find reasons y not to pay me out for my car.

What was the date you committed the driving offence that got you banned?
  • hi mate, i commited the offences on the 4th jan 2010, wasnt in court till 29th jan 2010 which is when i actually got banned. ACCIDENT was 20th jan 2010
  • I recently bought a new car (end of May) and transfered my 1st central insurance over which required me to pay more money. This went through fine and i thought everything was ok untill i tried to buy new car tax online. I was told i was not on the insurance data base! Obviously being worried that i was A) not insured and B) that i would not be able to get tax i tried to get through to their help desk. I spent from 9am - about 2pm trying to get through. Eventually i was told that the issue would be rectified!
To my horror i was pulled over by the police 2 days ago (July 29th) for not having any insurance!!!!! Thankfully the policeman was very understanding and rang the insurance company to confirm i was covered! I rang 1st central again and was told that they would put me on the MID. When a manager rang me after a day of waiting i was told this was a database problem and they are having an emergency meeting next week to solve the issue (no rush then!!!!).

So i guess this means that i will be seeing alot of the police over the weekend or untill they can pull their finger out!!!!!
I have a complaint running with the financial ombudsman to investigate the nightmare i am having with this company and am awaiting a letter from them.
I have been offered no compensation.
I would advise you all to stay well clear unless you like talking to policemen!!

Bye Bye Worst Central (though not making a claim I have had no issues)

I've gone to First Direct for £217, renewal was £244 but FD guarantee to beat your renewal by at least 10%

Checking after 2 weeks I discover I am still not on the MID database. So I rang again yesterday and they apologised profusely and said they would send the email off to be put on the database but it would take 7 days...

This does not fill me with confidence.
