Robin if you have not already done so, please take the time to read the whole of this thread and the numerous other threads on MSE (You can find them by performing a search of forums for "1st Central") and on other forums.

You will find people have issues with phones not being answered, claims being handled very slowly and also two people who have received convictions for having no insurance due to driving other cars as they believed they were covered as 1st Central exclude cover for this but strangely do not make this clear to their customers.

Hopefully 1st Central are now addressing their many issues, the proof will be when the large amount of complaints we receive about 1st Central start to reduce.

Here are some of the other threads for you to read https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1606417

Good luck with sorting them out

P.S Is Tom still reviewing the items he promised to review over a year ago
  • Thanks dacouch - Tom has kept me updated with the issues but I will take a look at the threads.

As you mention above 1st Central are addressing the issues and I sincerely believe that the volume of negative comment on the forums will reduce as a result.

We are reviewing our product in the light of earlier posts but making changes has taken longer than expected.

As a general point, I fully understand that posters want to share their experiences with the forum but where there are specific customer issues then please also contact us directly and we will do our best to sort them out. The best email address is customer.relations@1stcentral.co.uk or private message to me, Chelsea or Tom.

"Proper" company reps need MSE permission to post here, get accreditation and aren't allowed to make use of the pm system!

but after weeks of waiting i have yet to receive any reply, time to email the FOS soon:j
  • why is my insurance, with 1 years no claims 1300 third party fire and theft, but after this year with you, my quote for my car, with 2 years no claims is 2400 fully comprehensive!?

does insurance not go DOWN or something?

Robin, I can understand why incoming calls might not be dealt with in a timely manner. You have no control over volume or timing of incoming calls, and not all automated answering services are totally reliable.

But what excuse is there for your staff PROMISING to ring somebody back WITHIN HALF AN HOUR, and then failing to do so?
Don't the outgoing lines work either?

I waited in for a call that never came. This really is not acceptable. Why do you think your time is more valuable than mine?

But the whole issue of the call which would have been totally unnecessary if 1st Central were actually doing their job and had refunded my premium, as had been agreed on the phone about 3 weeks ago when last I rang up to find out why it still hadn't been refunded.
And guess what? It still hasn't. That's why I was ringing yet again.

I have been hearing lots of talk about improving the service.
Well, my accident was in January.
    That's nearly 6 months ago.
    How long do you need?

Paid for car insurance online in April 2010, never received a conformation email or anything in the post. Called 1st central and they said they had no record of payment. Contacted my bank and they confirmed that the money had been taken out. Phoned 1st central, said they would phone me back, they never bothered. Phoned them again they said they will look into it and phone me back, they never did. Managed to get through to one of their managers (after another 12 phone calls). He gave me a policy number and said i would receive a confirmation email and a policy in the post. To this day (9th June) i have received nothing. I applied for my car tax online today and i was refused saying that i had no insurance. Phoned 1st central, guy on phone said i was insured, he asked me when my policy was supposed to start, i said you tell me, he replied today. Avoid like the plague. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN. PLEASE LISTEN TO MY ADVICE AND GET YOUR CAR INSURANCE ELSEWHERE. IF YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND THE NEXT THREE MONTHS CHASING THESE MORONS GO ELSEWHERE.

Well, I rang them today to find out why they STILL haven't refunded my unused premium.

This company never fails to disappoint, in ever less interesting ways.

Still no returned phone call, so I emailed them instead.
    That was a week ago.

Surprise surprise, no reply. And still no refund.

1st Central continues to be as awkward as ever to deal with.

Don't even consider becoming one of their customers, no matter how cheap their quotes appear at first glance.
  • I can only Echo the above comments
Do Not Under Any Circumstance try to deal with 1st Central

    You have been warned:mad:
  • I have just PM'd Robin Pegg as I have been advised that I need to pay a £30 fee despite cancelling my policy within the 14 day cooling off period.
It seems the company does not know the law!
