Hi Cbm - enjoy your trip to London! Glad you're nice and warm again - I hate being cold too.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)
  • Woke up this morning to the boiler not working again :( so we are waiting for the plumber to get back to us.
OH is painting the area around the front dooor, there is a sort of open porch which is made of wood (like trellis), we've been here 10 years and it really needs a paint - some bits are rotten and he replaced those yesterday.
I've got a little bit of preparation to do for job #2, as I'm doing a training course for them in a couple of weeks and they will prepare handout packs if I take all the bits in. No body balance classes on today so I might try and do Rosemary Conley. It might warm me up :o

Good news on the money front - I got the money expected from Quidco, and more than expected on the refund of the MS furniture item - they've refunded the extortionate delivery charge as well. So that's very good news and just over £100 paid off the CC this morning, although it was very tempting to put it to one side as spending money for London :naughty: and I had to speak very firmly to myself.

I'm off to make chelsea buns - comfort food and should warm the house a bit. Engineer is on his way some time today.

I have just read all your diary cbm and am lost in admiration! Well done! My struggle is to actually pay off debt (by overpaying) instead of using the extra money for "things". There always seems to be something that needs getting or a DS or DD who needs something. I really must try harder and that is my goal for 2010. We have always struggled and for a long time had hardly any money at all so I think this is my problem when I have a little bit extra.

Keep up the good work - I will keep reading so you inspire me.

Hi and welcome to the diary - congrats on staying awake - there is rather a lot of me whinging on!

I think like you we had a time of actually really needing the money saved for 'stuff' - for the house, or one of the youngsters; its easier now its just me and OH at home during term time as we seem to 'manage without' much better, and OH has some money which is his to spend on whatever he wants. Have you chosen one debt to focus on first (minimum payments on the rest) - might be less daunting than thinking about the whole amount all the time?

    Cheers

  • Update:
The engineer came and fixed the boiler :j at about 10.00, but by 12.00 it had stopped working again  and its just started to get really cold in the house. The company said they have to order a part and it will be 2-5 days:eek: so we might be thinking next week.

I've phoned the shop that have my pc and they have finished the build and need to transfer the data; it may be finished today.

I've done the prep for the training course.

OH has done the painting - which looks fab, but is coughing and sneezing and generally feeling under the weather. Hope he perks up in time for us to go to London.

And in a sad anoracky type moment I've calculated that we've paid off 88.9% of what we owed!

    Cheers

At least you'll be out of the cold for a bit in your London hotel! Hope your OH is well enough to go. 88.9% of your debt paid off is absolutely brilliant! The DF day is ever nearing.:T

we generally freeze when it's struggles to get over 10. It just hurts to the bone. In the end we've resorted to our calor gas heater being on all the time, two cardi's/jumpers, socks and blankets. Central heating is on the must list when we get the opportunity to buy somewhere.

You could try holding the engineer hostage until he fixes it and it has worked for aabout a week:D
Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:

TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D
  • That anoracky moment must have given you a very warm glow - 89.9% WOW!!!

I hate being cold so sympathise - hope OH is feeling better for London tomorrow. Have a great time.

    WOW - that's a pretty impressive percentage.

Enjoy London - I've never seen Phantom but would love to see it - maybe I'll treat me and dd next time I go down to see her.

Hope the boiler gets sorted - was going to suggest lots of snuggles but with dh being poorly not sure you'd want to get close enough to share. LOL - hope he's feeling better for London.

  • I've just nipped on here quickly as OH has taken the cats to the cattery. I get to stay behind, run the hoover round and repack the bags (we had another thought on how best to travel).
All well on the money front - ebay and butlins money into the bank today, I've updated signature and for the anoracs amongst us its now 89.8% paid off :D . I've decided there is nothing I want to buy that is as important as getting the whole thing paid off so London shops are not in the least attractive. We've got some ideas of things to look at, the show tonight, lunch booked in a pizza place tomorrow (with voucher of course :money:) and our trains there and back sorted. I'm so excited!

Electrical goods wise is not such a success story. The washing machine engineer came yesterday, replaced brushes and the washing machine is working much better. He didn't know that I'm about to cancel the maintenance contract and put the £100+ a year that we currently pay towards saving up for a new washing machine, now finances are a bit easier and I can imagine having some savings! The contract runs out in May so its not allowed to go wrong after that for about a year, but having been serviced yesterday its less likely to. Ok, that bit isn't too bad.
Computer - still at the shop, they promised they'd have it ready yesterday but I don't really care today (other things on my mind :D). I trust it will be ready next week and I'll be able to access the money programme and work out how we're doing - its weird not knowing what is about to come out of the bank account!
Heating - we have an appointment for Monday for the new part to be installed. Brrrr! The bedroom and bathroom are just so cold, not that it matters for the next two days of course.... did I mention I'm going to London :rotfl:

    Cheers all
