Hi all
Good morning from chilly Somerset. We woke up on Saturday morning feeling a bit cold and it has turned out the boiler has packed up. Despite having a service and maintenance contract for the boiler, and OH having an expensive bank account that pays for homesos - including no heating/hot water - we have no idea when it is going to get mended. The homesos people offered a Sunday appointment but we couldn't be here the whole day (out training) so phoned and they agreed to come today. But when we got home they had been and gone and are grumpy that we missed our appointment so not sure they can come today . I hope OH will phone the bank (who he gave the message to about yesterday and get them to sort things out. So brrrr! I have found something out about myself - at 14degrees I feel cold and unhappy!!!!
I'm trying to be more positive today, am hoping that the heating and computer can both get sorted out.
We've both got Wed-Fri off, and on Friday we're heading up to London to watch 'phantom of the opera', my christmas present. Just work today and tomorrow to get through first
Money wise all is in order. I'm just waiting for the bits of money to come into the bank and then can pay off the credit card.
Have a good day, all
Cbm

Morning CBM
Sorry to hear about your boiler troubles - nothing worse than being cold and miserable in your own home.
At leat you have Phantom to look forward to - it is my all time favourite and I could watch it again and again. where are you staying?

We have warmth! :j
OH phoned the bank pointing out it was their mistake, and they got on to the engineers who were here by mid-morning:beer:. I got a text (I was working today and at a meeting the other side of the county) saying we had warmth, apparantly there was a leak that has probably been dripping for years that is now sorted. Fantastic! I was really pleased, OH hates making a fuss so it was a bit touch and go getting it sorted.
Cats went to the vets for their jabs etc this afternoon - appointment changed because of the engineer - all well and so they can go to the cattery when we go to London.:D
No news on PC.
OH also looked into the insurance, surprisingly it is the cheapest company but we will change from monthly payments to a single payment and sort that out in a few days.
I am absolutely exhausted. I wonder if I don't cope well with the uncertainty of not knowing when/if the boiler is going to get mended and if it was going to need replacing which made me a bit stressed? Also I know I don't like being cold! I've just woken up from about an hour and a half's sleep on the sofa and still haven't got any energy to do anything.
Just tomorrow to go and then not working until next Wednesday. A major meeting got rescheduled for Wednesday and my boss asked if I could prepare a presentation which he could deliver 'or just come to the meeting' but I am resisting as I'd already booked leave. Difficult balance - might be a bit silly not bending over backwards with my job as I work for a council (have you seen the news about LA jobs ) on the other hand OH and I had agreed to have the week off and I messed up and ended up agreeing to things today and tomorrow and really don't want to work 3 of the 5 days we've got together.
Sorry - this has turned into a bit of an essay!!!!

i'm sure you've done the right thing by sticking to your days off, you need them.
glad you got your boiler sorted, i know what it's like being cold, sometimes we struggle to keep this place above 10 and it's just soul destroying.0 -
Keep your time off, your days off are for destressing and having fun ( and working on MSE spreadsheets of course).
Did I read something like 10% of LA jobs are going?Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:
TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D0 -
Lemon Tree I thought that one of the advantages of living in a flat was that they had the shared warmth - how do you manage at 10? I can't find a shivery smiley but brrr!
Yes Catspaw lots of jobs are almost certainly going to be lost over the next few years. We have just changed political parties in last years local elections and they are already talking very tough, including 'derecognising Unison' which I didn't even know employers could do! All the more impetus for getting DF and bringing down all the costs so we can live on one salary. Bizarrely if we lost income the kids would get far more help for university from the state, so I'm not sure that it would be much of a saving to the national purse by making me redundant... I'm not sure that's a convincing argument though :rotfl:
No changes on the money side of things - just waiting for money to come in from the various sources.
Better start work now

I have just read all your diary cbm and am lost in admiration! Well done! My struggle is to actually pay off debt (by overpaying) instead of using the extra money for "things". There always seems to be something that needs getting or a DS or DD who needs something. I really must try harder and that is my goal for 2010. We have always struggled and for a long time had hardly any money at all so I think this is my problem when I have a little bit extra.
Keep up the good work - I will keep reading so you inspire me.0
