  • I was always told that Eternity rings should be given on the birth of the 1st child. As we thought I would never have children my husband bought me one for our first anniversary. In this day and age I don't think there is really any convention for when to give an Eternity ring.

As to the order in which they should be worn the Wedding ring should be worn first on the inside (nearer the heart), then depending on the style of the rings the Engagement and Eternity can be worn any way round. My hubby has said he is going to buy me another ring for my 40th birthday. My engagement ring is 2 diamonds and a sapphire, my eternity is 2 emeralds and a diamond. The new one will be 4 stones including rubies and will sit snuggly between the other two. Aren't I a lucky lady? ;D

BTW I have a son who is 3 in six weeks and have been ttc number 2 for 2 1/2 years.

If I ever get one that's the way mine will have to go because it's way too much work to get my engagement ring off! But my engagement ring is such an unusual shape and colour I'm not sure I could get one to match so maybe I'd wear it on my right hand.

My engagement ring is a sapphire/diamond "twist" - so it doesn't sit "flush" - however, it's the length of your finger which will determine if the 3 will sit comfortably really. the finger bone between the knuckle on my hand and the mid knuckle of my ring finger is long enough to fit them on without any problems (oooh, Gramma, wot big fingers you got!!) ;D
    Ultimately though ... it's personal choice ;) ;D

Do what I did. My engagement ring from my first marriage was an odd shape so I got a small independant jeweller to make a wedding ring to fit round it.

My rings that I have now have been made by the same jeweller and are to my design and they cost me less than similar ones in the shops cost.

I wear mine the same as Glad.

Traditionally you should receive an eternity ring on the birth of your first child but like some others on this thread my husband must have felt that a year seemed like an eternity as I was given mine on our first anniversary!!

However he has managed to stick out a further 16 years so it can't have been SOOO bad ;D

Lol, was just reading this and spotting a load of old time posters - took me quite a while to realise its a really old thread!

Muntz - my only advice would be to look for a 'full eternity' ring, not just a 'half eternity'. It defies the point of eternity if its only a 'half eternity' IMHO

i like this idea, i didnt realise its traditionally on the birth of the first child. My plan is to have a wedding ring that fits around the engagement ring (its a single large princess cut diamond) and inside the band it has my fingerprint lasered onto it. I'll then get the fingerprint of my newborn (later this year!) and have one the same size and shape but different style made up as an eternity ring with our babies fingerprint on the inside of the band.

    Should look good :)

And there are alot of men that cant wear jewelry at work for whoever was asking, if i wore a ring it could get caught in machinery and rip my finger off! i'd rather just keep it safe at home :-p
