I received mine after 5yrs of marriage.

Never realised it was "traditional" to give it after the birth of the first child, but, having read this thread I am having a little (sadistic!) chuckle to myself ...

... POOR GUYS ... we all know how expensive having that 1st child can be and now I'm learning they have to stump up for an eternity ring too!!!!??? :o;)

My Dad bought my Mother gifts after the birth of each of the five of us. One year it was a Cookery Book (romantic, huh, ;) ) ... eventually, after I was born he finally got her something way more practical ... a Washing Machine. LOL I'm sure she appreciated that way more than an Eternity Ring though.

Go with your gut feelings - if you want to buy your beloved an Eternity Ring - just do it!

I always thought it was given on the silver wedding anniversary.

  • Drat, I've missed out too. No kids, but we've had two anniversaries!

I guess the theme here is..to get an eternity ring, you have to wait an eternity! ;D

I'll be leaving this screen on for hubby to accidentally see..muhahaha!

hmm dont think I'll get an eternity ring then, being on my second wedding ring after 5 months of marriage dont think he would trust me with another ring (just had to have my engagement ring mended oops). Do you think I would get away with a new motorbike instead? ;D

If you have an engagement ring, wedding ring and an eternity ring in what order do you wear them?

I would wear it under my wedding ring, so that would be (from fingertip down) engagement ring, wedding ring, eternity ring.

From the base of my ring finger going up towards the tip:

    Wedding Ring
    Engagement Ring
    Eternity Ring

However, find this link: http://www.24carat.co.uk/eternityringstoryframe.html which gives a history of the eternity ring, when to buy one, where to wear one.

If I ever get one that's the way mine will have to go because it's way too much work to get my engagement ring off! But my engagement ring is such an unusual shape and colour I'm not sure I could get one to match so maybe I'd wear it on my right hand.
