Oh MATH, I expect you know where the vacuum cleaner is AND how to use it too, and that cleaning a bathroom is more than just hanging up the towels and flushing the loo ;D

Why did I never find men with opinions like yours? ::) ;D ::)

How come females get three rings and males only get 1?
I offer myself as the model of economy. I have only an engagement ring - I loved almost the cheapest in the shop, which was just as well because he was stony broke - and his grandmother's wedding ring, which we had to get resized. The two match beautifully.

Mr SS hasn't even got a wedding ring. Thinks real men don't wear jewellery, even wedding rings!

(That's not quite true: he has eczema and being a true MSE decided that having a ring which he probably wouldn't be able to wear because it would irritate his skin wasn't a good investment. Doesn't even wear a watch for that reason.)
A good piece of jewelery should follow every birth, significant anniversary and birthday IMO
It's a lovely thought, but I already have more jewellery than I wear! The beautiful bracelet he gave me one anniversary never leaves my wrist, mind you!

My husband bought me an eternity ring for our fist anniversary, we weren't married or even enganged, it was just our first anniversary together ;D I saw it as a good omen that he willingley bought jewellery! We are now married (no engagement ring but a diamond-set wedding ring) & expecting our first child (upon who's birth I don't expect to receive any jewellery, we'll be to broke paying for all the babay stuff!)
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!

My nan once told me that an eternity ring was given on the birth of the first child, how true it is , i have no idea, didnt work for me though, i had 5 and still didnt get one, it took me over 10 yrs of marriage, its still in the box, cos it was to small and the tight git wont have it re-sized :o:o ::) ::)

Now I'm off to set this very page as our homepage as I'm feeling a little left out. ;)

I've been hinting for a while about how nice eternity rings are and how much I like them.

Two Children & 13 years of marriage later & I'm still waiting :(

And now I know I should have got one 12 years ago - well!!
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

It's entirely upto you, though i agree with one of the other posters that it needs to suit both the engagement and weddingrings.

We could only afford a cheap engagement ring, and the promise was that one day i'd have a more expensive one.

Anyway a few months ago i got a new ring but i didn't really want to replace my engagement ring or get an eternity ring, so instead i have a ring with 3 diamonds ina row. Is called a triologyring and each stone represents your past, present and your future.

Best wishes whatever you decide :)
  • My hubby heard somewhere that it traditional to give an eternity ring after the birth of the first child so, dutifully, after our son was born asked me if I would like to choose one as he had been saving up for it (bless). Unfortunately, I had (ahem!) put on quite a bit of pregnancy weight and so asked if I could choose one after I had lost a bit, as a sort of incentive!!!

I ended up getting pregnant again before that could happen! So, the moral of my tale is that I would have had one after the birth of my first baby but didn't. It was the chocolate digestive's fault!

It is traditional to give an eternity ring on the birth of the first child or after a period of happy marriage. 5 years is quite long enough to wait though! Can't believe what stinge-mongers some of you  ladies are wed too (I'm sure ya still love em thought ;D)

It's quite unusal to buy an eternity ring before being married, quite difficult to choose the style as well, because you don't know how the engagement ring, wedding band and eternity band will sit together. If your first child is born before the wedding I would buy a different piece of jewelery to commemorate the event and purchase an eternity ring later.

A good piece of jewelery should follow every birth, significant anniversary and birthday IMO
    I'm in lurve!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) ;D
