Today I made part of the sheet into a bag to fit inside the hamper so that I can take it out full of dirty washing.

I used the deep hemmed edge of the sheet as the top of the bag and unpicked the two sides of the hem so that I could thread a cord through. It's not half bad and it does the job;)

Got to alter it today. It fits the basket so long as there is no laundry in it. Once the clothes go in the bag falls inside the basket:rolleyes: So, today I'm going to unpick the bottom seam and add another 10 inches ot fabric;)

Wow, that lego bag is cool! i21-8.jpg

We used to have a box as kids, but a bag is well better! :)

I needed a dress for a friends wedding recently...I decided to buy a very plain dress and have sewn in beads and attached a corsage on it. I wore it and suprised to receive a compliment from the people at the ceremony...

Finished my patchwork rug: I have photographed it but still can't load up the photos as I've tidied the leads away etc  just born messy. Cost less than £7 :D

I'm about to turn half the spare laura Ashley duvet (2 for £4.50 in a charity shop) into a pillow case, and then cover my repainted LLoyd-loom blanket box with the rest. It is a bit 'pretty-pretty' for DS1's bedroom but he has more or less left home

Got a skirt in the charity shop on Friday for £2. I don't know if they'd noticed that it had a hole in one seam but I've sewn it up and it looks nice on. I might even make a couple of darts in the top but that's being fussy. I don't feel it owes me anything if it only lasts one season.

    Hi luxor4t :D

thanks for directing me over here, I'm also lurking over on shabby chic but assure you that I am not stalking :rotfl:

I'll jump right in & say that inspite of being the greatgrandaughter of a tailor, the grandaughter & daughter of accomplished dressmakers, darners & knitters until very recently I've been rather bereft of sewing skills other than buttons, hems & nametapes :o . I recently went to the local sewing / machine shop to buy some buttons for a jacket I dyed, & came out with a beautiful old ( 1928) hand driven Singer, complete with the original book & tin containing all the different 'feet' ?

It's been sat there for a few weeks waiting for me to build up the courage to use it to make curtains ( the original reason for buying it ) but then I bought a skirt off ebay for a very money saving £2.70 but it was too long, so at the week end I took about 6 inches off the hem & then made a dress for DDs teddy with the offcut.

I would love to spend more time experimenting & making the curtains but am already struggling to find the time to get on with decorating/shabby chicing what with gardening & allotmenteering & MSEing

Must win the lottery so can delegate more :rotfl:

I saw Lula's post about this on the £100 clothes challenge thread & was inspired to shorten my spare jeans into cut-offs.

Being cruel, my teddy did not get a new dress :p!

Yes, absolutely yes, but on MSE it's called 'frugal' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Sorry :o.

Sad to say I no longer have a teddybear as he went missing in action after a sponsored parachute jump about 15years ago. He was wearing a fetching HOMEMADE camouflage suit at the time.
Now I have DH to cuddle...he would not like it if I made him a dress, honest

Back to OS sewing, I have some lovely Laura Ashley curtains with yellow roses on to alter for the back bedroom. Charity shop £3!!!!:j:j:j

Inspired by this thread :j I'm sorting out my sewing kit and have fabric ready to make a couple of shopping bags.

I despair of keeping my sewing box tidy though. I have no permanent sewing space so I have a wooden sewing box (made for me by my dad) and a large lidded basket but threads are a nightmare to keep tidy!

Can I ask please how you all store your reels of thread? ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
