I agree, I find that my sewing for enjoyment rather than to be frugal, having said that this site is not badly priced, found some material for 60p a metre that I'm going to use to make a toy bag for the kids! Also ordered some tie dye cotton fabric for £2.49/metre which I'm going to use to make this. Of course there are postage fees to pay as well. I ordered the fabric yesterday so I'll let you know what its like, always a danger ordering over the net when you can't touch and see the fabric but 9/10 its ok, just if you were trying to colour match something!

i used to live very near the physical shop, and I agree it is great. Will order some from there.

I am addicted to making cushion covers because they are easy- no measuring or anything. I made a large felt flower yesterday, and have attached it to a cushion with a popper :D

Might try my hand at a pegbag next I think.

I am sewing for frugality reasons- we are renovating a house that needs all new curtain s etc, so I decided that it is cheaper to buy plain curtains and duvet covers etc and customise them.

I hated sewing at school- we had to use berninas, and I was always breaking needles and having to pay for them and the end of a year I came out with one wonky cushion

I have just bought a cheap e and r classic sub22 from argos, and it is great. I love sewing!!!

Well I can definatly recommed this website, my material turned up this morning, great quality fabric and sooo cheap. Now I have to find the time to make the items I bought it for, got so many ideas for craft things at the moment, I need to get organised and actually finish some. Its wrong that I get excited about creating something?!:D (Bunny goes off to clear her calender for next week.....)

I was "taught" in school but really learned at home with my mother & grandmother.
School made us use hand cranked Singers -shame I've got poor co-ordination :o. We all had to bring our own machine needles too . Still, with five of us to one machine I never really finished my skirt in a whole year.

Today I promise I will finish this blessed rug , life just keeps getting in the way atm. I have fabric for 2 dresses and a skirt that I'm excited about, and I need to make the seat & back panels for my lovely shabby-chic rescued director's chair. :j:j:j weekend sewing!!!!

I've sat this evening & done some more repairs :T DH's Regatta work trousers had rips in both front pockets, a belt loop had come off and the oversewing on two of the leg pockets had come adrift! Also DS3's school coat had ripped at the bit where the hood meets the shoulder seam and a straight cut had 'magically' appeared on the sleeve cuff  I've enjoyed fixing both items & knowing that they will last for a bit longer now ;)

I'm going to make myself a new peg bag tomorrow as mine is looking a bit tatty now - it's probably a sure fire way to make it rain for the next month :rotfl:

I bought some gorgeous cream flock fabric (huge piece) for £1 the other day. Having a bit of a dilemma as to whether to use it to make a roman blind (the type that keeps out the dark, rather than the type that stumbles around unable to see) for our new bedroom, or whether to use it with another fabric to make curtains.

Need to finish plastering the room first I suppose...

I'm attempting to make some jolly bunting for my little boys birthday today. Wish me luck as my cranky old Singer and me aren't getting on at the moment!

Good luck, and think of the huge saving you'll make on the bunting!

I'm having to turn tab-top curtains into tape-top, that will teach me to fall in love with an IKEA fabric that is not off the roll:rolleyes:

I hope this is the pic of a shirt I made. First thing I have made for about 30 years. I was inspired by this thread. Won't be no stopping me now :-)

That's a very nice shirt - the fabric looks really nice. Which pattern did you use?
