Not exactly sewing (more sticking & glueing) but I have just made an Hawaiian skirt for my daughter out of a reel of ribbon and some strips of petersham as a waistband. I knew the big reel of ribbon I picked up via free cycle would come in useful.

I also need to mend the duvet - but that's a lot less fun!

I've not used this company, but I've had it recommended to me,
I'm not sure if this would be the right size of cord: http://www.online-fabrics.co.uk/Dressmaking-Fabrics/Corduroy-Fabric

I was lucky enough to get a sewing machine for Xmas.

I havent dont much on them before, just taken up curtains, made a hotty botty cover and fleece lined curtains

Any ideas for easy things to make? Where to get samples of materials or patterns.

I would love to make a dog coat and a organiser to hang on the back of the door

    Thanks

For instructions and free patterns then your local library and Google are your friends!

Snap!!!! I got one too, and have had limited use in the past eg curtains, etc nothing of any consequence. I am going to start doing more crafting so I can sell it at a summer fayre, so have sent away for some oilcloth to make tote bags, shopping bags, aprons etc as these seem to be easy to make and sell well. I have also sent away for some quilting panels to make childrens quilts, cushions etc. Will be a wee bit more expensive to start with until I get some confidence and then I can start making up things myself. I am needing new curtains for the kitchen so that will be another project! Ebay have quite a few patterns cheap too. There are a lot of sites online at the moment that have sales on for fabrics.
    Hope that helps

  • I am a trainee sewer and a newbie to MSE!!

Been sewing for a few months now, but not totally confident yet.

So far I have made: a cushion cover, a rag bag, a drawstring bag for carrier bags, a cover for my sewing machine, a dog bed (BUT THEN DOG CHEWED IT UP!), a pin cushion and heart shaped hanger.
I would like to learn how to put zip in and do button holes now...
