The hamster has chewed a hole in my teenager DD's brand new skinny jeans a few inches above the knee. Any ideas of a trendy way to patch it please?
This looks interestingif you want to make a fashion statement: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/cr_clothing/article/0,2025,DIY_13751_5473514,00.html
Otherwise, this is a 'how-to':

DD dealt with the last worn patch by tacking floral fabric behind the split then making the split worse (must be a teen thing... Gosh, I'm OLD
)
DS just left his splits get worse, and worse ... until I cut the legs off above the split:DI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Hi Aeshna,
I've not seen one, but I'm quite new to MSE, great idea.0 -
Hi Ladies
Can anyone tell me if there's a thread particular to different sewing machine models here on MSE? I don't want to start one if there's an existing thread hanging around, although I've searched and can't find one and I don't want to hijack here.
Thanks!
Aeshna x
I haven't seen one for quite a while either, although I can remember something about sergers. Why not start the thread, I'm sure the forum Mods will kindly sort it out if there is another thread somewhere.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Thanks luxor thats a good idea patching behind the hole with some pretty material, as to be fair to the hamster he did manage to make a perfect circle0

I have made a bag and it's also on the shabby chic thread but I made it today so here goes.
I would like some advice from you lovely sewing people. I used a 'close weave interface' to stiffen the already quite thick cotton & the calico. But it wasn't that stiff.
Any ideas where I went wrong? Thanks in advance.0 -
Love the bag Gangstabird & the quilt it's laid on - beautiful. I have no idea about the interfacing apart from that it may come in different weights like ordinary interfacing for shirts and the like?0

Interfacing is sold in weaves but can also be measured by weight (ie heavy, medium etc), so I wonder if you used something for dress-making rather than the stiffer tailoring stuff that would do the job.
I buy mine by length (cut from a roll) in a big fabric shop where they have a choice of thicknesses/weights.
maybe this site will help: http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2007/01/interfacinginte.htmlI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Failing that does anyone have any ideas of possible uses for grey trouser material?
Bella.
Hi Bella,
Could you turn them into a button-fly? Just a thought!

I use a walking foot on my machine, silicone spray as sometimes the leather gets a bit stuck, super strong thread rather than ordinary sewing thread as it's not strong enough and will snap easily and leather needles for the machine. HTH.0
