luxor4t, thank you for that, it'll be worth a try. They were a free pair of trousers so I'll have a go and see what I can do by stitching them up the crotch.
Today I bought a vintage dress for £1 in a charity shop. Beautiful print. My sewing machine isn't up and running as I've lost the pressfoot and cable. Going to try and find out how much it will cost to replace but not pridicting it will be good.... want to turn the dress into a pretty work shirt and skirt so I can at least chop and pin until I'm ready for now...:ASaving for my future...0 -
I've spent a few hours working my way through my 'alterations' pile:
I'm going off on holiday soon and last summer's clothes are too big (:j).
So far I've rescued 2 pairs of cutoffs and two skirts (making waists smaller), re-sewed a blouse seam (broken thread), mended my laundry bag (starting to tear) and mended a lacy/crochet cardigan (pulled thread meant it was unravelling).
I also completed a UFO- a dress I started making back at Easter
Not exciting, but at least it saves buying new clothes :rolleyes:I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

Wow, I'd be really excited if I had done all that. Well done you,

Took in my jeans, at the waist yesterday. Now I have that touching 'poor but honest' look like the Waltons
but at least they stay up now
Also spent a while sorting out gaping armholes & drooping necklines on my summer holiday dresses, due to the usual problem of being well endowed so needing a bigger size, but not wanting acres of cleavage on show
I need to cheer myself up with a few 'pretties' before MiL arrives, I fancied something like this:

from Sew hot Mitmot's tasty blog. It would be a great 'spoonful of sugar' to help the MiL medicine go downI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
The OH has torn a hole in the knee of one of his work trousers. What's the easiest way to repair this? I'm trying to find an iron on patch in a stone colour, but no luck so far. Not too fussed on cosmetic appearance because it's only a work pair, but I'm useless at sewing.
Thanks.0 -
How big is the hole? I'm wondering if you could take a piece off the hem and use wonderweb to patch it with.0
-
I use wonderweb to mend tears etc as well. The colour of the mending material wouldnt really matter if it is a straight clean tear as I would just put the patch on the inside with the wonderweb in between the patch and the trousers, then holding the trousers quite tight so the tear is edge to edge press firmly with a hot iron. If it is a ragged tear I would use a similar colour. I have been known to cut bits off tea towels, old napkins to make patches. Some haberdashery stores have the proper iron on patches - but I have to say these stores are few and far between these days!!Every days a School day!0
-
I would be inclined to sew a square of fabric on the inside of the tear then the fabric wouldn't have to be an exact match.
(You could use wonderweb in between if you wished.)£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
