DD dealt with the last worn patch by tacking floral fabric behind the split then making the split worse ( must be a teen thing... Gosh, I'm OLD :o)

My DSD does this too! I would do it to mine, as I think it looks rather more fun than conventional patches, but I find that they go in between the legs long before they go at the knees, so I don't really get to patch them! (Due to my fat thighs & bum I expect!!!!).

Does anyone have a solution for the 'lines' on the thighs of jeans? Mine always seem to crease in the same places and after a little while the dye seems to fade more at these spots so I have 'crease lines' across the thighs IYSWIM?????

Thanks FairyElephant I can see I might well resort to button flies, just don't know if DH would have the patience to undo buttons, seems to me the zip front is the product of the 'instant' age and I suppose we have all become conditioned by that one way or another.

    I'll keep trying.

I mended a flagpole sleeve at the weekend - DH is very happy as it means he can proudly display his spinning fish and pirate flag next time we go camping!!

Aren't they fashionable these days! I'm sure you'd spend a fortune buying them like that :D

Re patches - years ago I was bitten on the back of my calf by a dog. Luckily it didn't get to my skin (living in Africa I was afraid of rabies ) but it did tear a hole in my jeans. I cut out a big rose from a piece of fabric and sewed it over the top!

I have been driving myself mad making a new dress.

I'm ashamed to say that it must be about 10 years since I last sewed adult clothes... and I'm glad nobody can see the silly mistakes I've made.

luxor4t - don't feel ashamed, home sewing just died the death and we have all been in danger of loosing our skills. I used to make everthing worn my myself and two children but had not made anything for going on 20years until I made a skirt last winter. I think one good thing to come out of the recession is that this skill is making a come back and a good thing too. I thought cheap imports of clothing had wiped it out but you can't imagine my joy when I managed to get a skirt length in the Birmingham rag market for a couple of £££s - I'll be back.

    You'll soon get back into it - it's like riding a bike - mind you I can't do that:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks for the encouragement, I felt so stupid, especially as it is a wrap around dress & the mistake was very obvious :o
I was just glad MiL wasn't around to make snide comments , (she is a trained dressmaker but hasn't made herself anything for about 20 years but still likes to 'impress')

I haven't really made anything else, but I bought some fabric yesterday.

In a charity shop, I bought two double flat sheets with a cath-kidston-style floral print for hardly any money at all. I was planning to use them to make curtains and cushions for our CK influenced room- any other ideas of what I can make for in there?

I also got some books out of the library- patchwork quilts. i am planning to make one for my nephew.

    You could make:
    Laundry bag
    covered hangers
    Bunting
    doorstop?
    dressing table/bedside table cloths
hearts to hang from the door handle
    nightdress case

I love doing a Google image search for 'Cath Kidston', to enjoy the wealth of pictures & ideas. It always cheers me up faster than chocolate :p.
