You could make:
Laundry bag
covered hangers
Bunting
doorstop?
dressing table/bedside table cloths
hearts to hang from the door handle
nightdress case
I love doing a Google image search for 'Cath Kidston', to enjoy the wealth of pictures & ideas. It always cheers me up faster than chocolate.
Brill- lots of great ideas that didn't even cross my mindA laundry bag sounds fab, might make it like the lego bag I keep seeing on here?

Recently brought two curtain samples from our local posh shop, you know the one's? small, lined with curtain tape on the top? I left the lining in, removed the header tape and made two envelope style cushion covers in less than half and hour. Really pleased with the result - cost just £1 each!! Result!!Slightly bitter0

Wow, I wish I'd thought of that, the local curtain shop closed down (retirement) & was selling off loads of samples, but I couldn't work out what to do with them!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Looking for some tips ladies, I've googled it to death but can't find what I'm looking for.
Basically I recused a pair of jeans, the waist band fits me perfectly as a low/hipster waist, but they're meant to be about 2 inches or so higher so the crotch happens to be hanging low on me which looks silly. How do I lower the waist band? is it a case of chopping a cirlce round the pair about 2 inches thick and then sewing the waist band lower?? But then the zip wont fit.... hmmm...:ASaving for my future...0 -

Rather than working from the top down could you work from the crotch up? (oops, that sounds rude)
I mean unpick the crotch seams and make the adjustments there. (I found that advice in my old Ann Ladbury book about making things fit) Maybe there is a web tutorial somewhere.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I've got a couple of old duvets which I want to turn into lap quilts for the winter. Does anybody know the dimensions of a lap quilt?0

I have (at last) shortened a dress that I bought very cheaply ages ago but it was too long for me. It is a cool cotton dress and the heatwave spurred me on to get it done.Bella.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150

I don't think there is a definite size, I've seen instructions to make them in all sizes from 2'6" square right up to 5'; you just decide how big you want it - if your quilts are single maybe a half one would be a useful size?
I'd want mine to cover my feet because that's where I feel the cold... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I've got a kingsize and a couple of doubles. I'll have a measure up and see how many I can get out of them.
Yesterday on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2 they were talking about the Prom (personally I don't really understand why we've imported this American over the top disco to Britain) Prom dresses were quoted as being on average £200 each! For a dress you wear once!!! I think I'm going to really have to pull my finger out and get my sewing skills honed over the next 3 years!
We are off to South Africa for three weeks in just over three weeks time (courtesy of MIL :T:j) so I'm going to a local fabric shop there which has far more choice than I've ever seen in my local shop.0
