Fluffybishop - you bet I'm feeling better. My whole life is generally upbeat and even when I'm down, I can usually find the silver lining. Just once in a blue moon, that philosophy (sp?) lets me downthen the floodgates open. I have thought a lot about last week - it was soooooo unlike me to have a blip - I can only liken it to a safety valve moment when I had to let everything out in order to maintain the balance of everyday life. As a single parent, you always keep going, no matter what. Every now and then, you simply have to let the floodgates open to release everything that has been building up and start afresh the next day. Alcohol shouldn't be a part of that letting go, but it helps in the blocking out process.
Heading off to bed soon - another great week to look forward to! I hope I am not the only one who looks forward to going to work?!!!

'You awa on the boat?'
'Aye'
'Sooth?'

openscreen wrote: »Hi, everyone. I have looked a this group for a while, & decided to finally do something about my drinking!
I have tried:
a) AA - couldn't cope with the group thing
b) Acupuncture - didn't work (ended up with sore ears, don't ask!)
c) Counselling - Ok for a while
I am now taking Kudzo, having Milk Thistle etc,. I am trying to cut down rather than stop completely.
I cannot remember when I did not last have a drink ( I mean years), I had a drink on Bank Holiday Monday & I have had 4 AF days since. In all my time with the above I have never managed this!
However, I do have a problem in the fact I find it hard to get to sleep, ( I have been a heavy drinker for 30 years or more), I am trying Nytol, Any advice please?
Also I have the night sweat, again any advice?

Hi Openscreen
Well done on your four AFD. You mentioned sleepless nights, from my past experience please bear with this and it will shortly pass. Once you have got over this you will sleep like a baby. I have concerns about my own drinking, and have given up quite a few times, but lapsed. Once I've done the first three days or so I do feel better, and I find that it takes me about three weeks to no longer really crave a drink. Wish I could keep it up!! Anyway, my financial situation leaves me with no choice but to give up.
Is it too late to join this challenge for May??0 -
Sorry, forgot to say the night sweats only last a few days too. I also have weird dreams where I'm not sure if I am awake or not, and the night seems like the longest ever! But as I said, it gets better very quickly. If you've been AF for 4 days then maybe you should get a good night tonight.0

Well i've had a bath with my DS for the first time in ages, and it felt lovely. Poured the wine down the sink, going to do my hair and carry on watching davinci code in bed, and i've stoppped crying. I've got my stuff ready for tomorrow so can crack on with work and stop feeling sorry for myself. so today has been another AFD.0
