My interpretation of this is not a "dissing" of classes but more the fact that the alcoholic has exhausted all social communication within his own class/peers that he seeks alcoholic solace with a class he wouldn't have thought at one time he would do!! iykwim.....

we dont know where the alcoholic bum in the street has derived from we just know where he is at now - and that obviously is classless - as they are from all walks of life but together in one through alcohol and having reached rock bottom they are seen as lower than the functionng secret alcohol! (seen as lower by society).

We are all, of course, entitled to interpretate this as individuals.

clear as mud to me but my goggle glasses are off - lol

I really only came to switch the pc off; goodnite x

I'm sorry to disagree, all humans need and deserve dignity, and I personally don't describe anyone as an 'alcoholic bum'- nor anyone as 'classless'. I am really, really angry that you think that an alcoholic 'seeks solace with a class he wouldn't have thought that one time he would do', if this thread teaches us anything its that there but for the grace of god go all of us-what kind of class do you think alcoholics belong too? -the answer to that is all- and if you look at a lot of the people who hit material rock bottom eg. street drinkers, they are young people out of care, abused young people without a safe place to go, ex-soldiers, divorced men and women, people who have fallen on genuine hard times etc. So those of us who have found themselves in this situation don't percieve themselves as classless or as 'bums', we just happen to live in a society whereby the moral highground is taken by others who feel comfortable with stereotypes and we have no power to change this situation.

Basically, drunks are drunks, whether your dining table is from IKEA or you live as a homeless person in a hostel. Its just some of us are able to be drunks in a more pleasant environment.

I think it may have been Allen Carr that said "The 'bums' just start earlier in the day......"

    Morning all!

    Feelin' good?

    YM well done!

Trying to get some washing down before the weather changes. I feel a bit better today, I didn't realise it was the full moon again, should have realised, it always seems to affect my mood these days

Whoops, just reread this and its a bit of a rant (even by my standards)- sorry Nettie, please don't think I was ranting at you, I was tired and I should have thought more carefully about what I posted- I wouldn't dream of upsetting anyone on here, you are all too nice.

Eselt, I didn't interpret that bit on the list about classes as actual classes iykwim, I think I explained yesterday so won't do it again, but I thought it was more to do with leaving your normal drinking buddies behind to find new ones that you wouldn't normally drink with, not necessarily different class just people you don't know  I dunno, maybe I interpreted it wrong, I've not read the big book properly.
