Hi guys. I need you and I need this thread! I'm awake when I shouldn't be and the hangover is starting to kick in. I got drunk and then came home and ate loads of rubbish. So now I'm feeling fat and miserable. I wouldn't consider myself an alcoholic but there is a definite psychological dependence. I made sure I had a double vodka and a glass of wine before meeting some people as I couldn't imagine going to a bar stone-cold sober. I'm basically fed up of the effect alcohol is having on my life and having so many days-after ruined because I wanted "just a couple of drinks". I'm a bit anxious about signing up for this challenge because it makes it official that I'm trying to cut down. It's madness that I think that saying I will aim for 20 AF days will be quite a challenge.
You guys all seem a lovely bunch of people, so, if you don't mind, can I join in please!
Well done to all of you for your amazing achievements so far and good luck for the future.
Great username Hopeful.
It looks like you have admitted that your drinking is not the way you want it to be, and thus are seeking help. That is the hardest bit over with.
I used to be like that in the way of I couldn't turn up to a bar sober.
It's like making sure your car is clean before taking it to the car wash!
Good luck - see you how get on with getting some AF days under your belt. If that proves too difficult, some people go for abstinence. Others just moderate (though I couldn't follow that path successfully!)0 -

NO SUNSHINE HERE.................. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Welcome Hopeful You will do well here.
I fell off last night and I am shocked. I have done 40-odd days with little trouble ( apart from feeling VERY low ) and then last night I drank a bottle of wine. No idea why, I didnt see it coming. I felt no better for it and no worse. I was more concerned about the calories than the drinking. WHAT HAPPENED????
I had committed to doing all of June and now I can't complete that. I hate failing and that mark will be against me for the rest of the month. I am quite annoyed with myself I can tell you. I will continue the battle though. The drinking hasn't made me want to give up giving up.
Love Annie x
P.S. Thankyou R A for that list which i was surprised to see I could relate to completely.0 -

Morning all
Hi Bis  where you been?
Eselt, how's everything going with you? xx
Well done BHB, 2 months under your belt :T:T:T is it getting easier? (please say yes) xx
MP, how you doing hunny? xx
Sea, hugs to you, you do sound more positive in your post now though. Keep on keeping on, we are all here for you. Keep posting on here as well as going to meetings xx
Netttie, my interpretation of drinking classes is the same as you. When I read the list and came to that one I thought back to when I used to go out every night straight after work before heading to the station with a load of work mates, for one reason or another, over the years people stopped going and I then ended up finding other people to drink with that I would never have normally drunk with, just 'used' them reallyI'm not saying they were in a different class to me, but I didn't really know them that well and didn't fit in like the old crowd of mates, I was just there for the beer
:o:o that's how I see read the statement anyway??
WBF, congrats on your AF day...IN THE PUB :T:T:T amazingly well done!!
Hopeful34, welcome to the nuthouse....erm sorry threadI hope you achieve all you want to here, lots of help and advice to make it easier from the lovely people that post. Good luck and keep posting
DC, congrats on 5 days AF xx
YM, good luck for your first AF day
FUAS, I've been feeling like utter carp every morning this week even though I've not been drinking. Been sleeping extra heavy, vivid dreams (still having nightmares about Norris' girlfriend ) and general lethagy when I wake up. Fortunately today I went to bed at 11pm and didn't get up till 10am so I felt quite alivestrange??
Lurks, runningyou're nuts
Orchid, enjoy the party tonight! Who are you all dressing up as? xx
GG, morning
115k, thanks for the joke, that made me giggle :rotfl: have a great day xx
GC, how's you?? xx
MP, morning  hope the sunshine has arrived? It's cloudy and damp here but the sun is trying to break through
Annie, that's the thing about alcohol, as I am now learning after last night's cravings, what Bis, RA, GC and Eselt say, it is baffling and cunning stuff, it comes from nowhere with no warning and alcohol often wins as you've not prepared yourself to fight it. You have done tremendously well, and I forget whether you are a cutter downer or a quitter, but either way, don't forget how well you have done and don't beat yourself up (if you are??) about yesterday.
Feeling good today, had 11 hours sleep  I fancy doing some gardening today (), waiting for the weather to clear up a bit.
OH looked like death this morning, I went to bed at 11pm and he hadn't come in at that point and I refuse to pick anyone up after 11pm so I went to bed. Found him on the sofa this morning out like a light, clothes still on, have no idea what time he came in. I'll ask my neighbour as they probably would've heard him come in at some stupid time of the morning. You could put an atom bomb under my pillow and I wouldn't wake up so I rely on the neighbour to tell me what time he got in (luckily she's an insomniac and is usually up till 5am or more - not lucky for her obviously ).
What a great day!!
I hope everyone's well xxDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Morning everyone! Thanks for the lovely warm welcome. I was so keen to check this thread this morning. It's funny how hust joining a group has made me feel so better and determined already, it's nice not to feel alone. So thanks everone.
Yes, 40SM, I'll aim for 20 days AF. I've managed 3 so far and today will deinitely be another as I'm working tonight. And then when I do have a drink I need to cut down! Easily said!
And if it's bad jokes you want, I've got plenty.
The local butcher is offering 8 legs of venison for £50. Do you think that's too dear?! (Probably works better as a spoken joke!)
Have a good day people. Thanks again.0
